Default How fast are bandit 1200's ?

just had a play with one on the dual carriage way and not overly impressed....

THe guy was at the side of me in 4th gear and he dropped back as i approched about 6k.....

THought they would be pretty decent, but it didn't seem like it pulled well @ all...

a naked bike approaching 100mph is a bit of a handful, and the drag at those speeds means that they haven't got anywhere near the acceleration that they have at lower speeds.

naked bikes are even less aerodynamic than a flat front mk2 escort

I aint saying that i would beat it off the mark, but he was going for it.....defo

BUT as we were side by side i could pull and lift off and pull again...did this for about 1-2 mile then he dropped back and flashed his lights, thumbs up @ round about so for a instant he was defo on it and holding on.

But understand the no fairing thing, must be bad

But they aint as fast as i thought.

0-80 he'd p*ss off from most Cossies, but above that they're knackered - rider sits upright in the breeze..... they also have a massively restrictive exhaust on them that takes power down to 100bhp - Change that and gain 20 bhp instantly.....

A standard one with rider is probably only about 300bhp per tonne so not that quick for a bike.....

rider sits upright in the breeze
breeze - is that what you call it above 80mph on a naked bike

Yep, quick-ish (though not for a 1200cc bike, it's a bored & detuned for torque GSXR engine but actually has less peak torque than a GSXR & only 100bhp so not even as much as a 600cc sportsbike) up to 100 but not after that, top out about 150 if you can hang on.

It is a breeze at 80mph!!! did a top speed run on my old ZX6R when I took the fairing off. 145mph was the lot, and I strained all my neck muscles!!!!

Give me a fairing any day....

It's the old, old GSXR engine as well - oil and air cooled.... not sure if Bandits hit 150mph, thought it was all over by high 130's.....

On the plus side they wheelie well!!!!

Dunno about how fast a bandit 1200 is.

But how nice were the old Bandit chocolate bars? It was like Xmas when you opened your lunch box and found one of those.

Or a Trio.

That'll be one of those jap or Euro imports where they haven't bothered to convert the clocks from kph to mph.....

Fooking 175mph on a Bandit - you'd need about 300bhp to get that. Bikes have a small frontal area, which is good for aerodynamics, but a massive drag coefficient that outweighs the benefits and completely knackers their top speed. Air breaks up massively around the rider, and that's on faired bikes....

Remember - weight is not a factor in top speed - just power and aerodynamics....

bandits are not a fast bike as the rule goes !! they sprint well to about 100mph , but thats it , all over by 130 and you cant really give em full tilt cause of there short wheelbase

i raced at cb1300 in a standard rs turbo and wasnt impressed its all about a bit of wind resistance with motorcycles read zen and the art of.... blah blah

I might take that bet. However, I need to find a stretch of road about 300 miles long that doesn't have a petrol station on it......

0-60 he's dust ya, once the speeds get above 70ish and big power cossie should be able to stay with it.

As has been said, bandits are pony, good for wheelies tho!

Default Stop hammering the bandit!

I have a bandit 1200 and it is by no means the fastest thing in the world. BUT, they are great toys, and not called "The Hooligan" for nothing. Run over a worm in 5th gear and the front wheel is up.
I've had 155mph out of mine and it's unfaired. Granted, my legs were pretty much flapping around behind me at that point, but it WILL do it! Probably not with a standard exhaust though, mine has a micron system and K&N filters etc, the little tweaks that the manufacturer should do.

It's a sports tourer, so like folks have said, not the best thing for a track, but I've put some HyperPro progressive fork springs and shock on it and that's helped the handling tremendously.

Just need to replace 4th gear now and I'll be back on the road

think a bandit will do 140-150 ish. my mate had one and the torque was immense, i can remember 100mph 2 up wheelies were as easy and wheelieing a mx bike. who ever said 175mph, have a word. only the 1litre of the last decade have consistantly reached those speeds. the bandit engine is just the oil cooled gsxr 11 with bigger pistons/milder cam and irc smaller carbs. with 1100 cams, carbs (if different) and gas flowed head/decent pipe they will have no problems seeing most cosworths off up to about 100mph id have thought. aerodynamics is a problem long before hp.
