Default IS MY NUMBER PLATE LEGAL, OR DO I HAVE TO WATCH OUT....????

Looks so much better though, and lets the intake vent in the front bumper do what it was designed for.

Guess I'd better keep the original in the boot then, with some blue tack on the back. Probably better just to accept that eventually I'll get a pull.

What do you get.... A warning, A Set Fine, Points ????

If you do get pulled expect a fixed fine, usually Ł30 or Ł40...... been a while since I displayed illegal plates so cant quite remember how much

I got caught with one the same size as yours and i got Ł30 fine.
I left it on and got pulled again (different day) by different copper and he asked why it was on there so i showed a broken original size one and they let me go

Legally it depends on how far the letters are apart and how much gap there is too the edge of the plate...

ya forgot to mention the size and thickness of the letters too

ive had a 30 quid fine for a small plate, got loads of tugs but living in central london so supose its expected tbh

but since i got the fine i took me plate off and ive only had 1 other tug since and for that i got a vehicle defect rec form, basicly 7 days to fit a plate and get a mot place to stamp it

not even a fine but if ya dont know a mechanic its gonna cost 10 quid for it

lucky that the mot testers at work will do that for me, wont give me a moody mot though

The law States, Legal size and font required and Legal Spacing and reflective background.

Thats all. You can trim the plate right down to the letters if you want as long as all of the above stay the same.

Anything other than this should be a fine, by the book.

Some cops make a train crash out of plates, some dont.

If you are logged by the DVLA 3 times then your log book will be put onto a new Q reg and you will have no say in the matter so peeps beware.

If you are polite to the Mr Policeman half the time they will just say to change them. So its swings and roundabouts really.

so ya stop breaking the law, otherwise the rich will keep paying the 30 quid fines as thats ment to be severe enough to deter ya from breaking the law

why do ya thing its too harsh,,,,,,, or does it make ya think twice about fitting illegal plates ????

fookin number plates and coppers do not mix

A few of you will know I had two coppers who pulled me twice in about as many weeks for my plates and they confiscated them. Eventually got them back and didnt get a fine, but it was a pain in the ass as i had to get "legal" plates made

Then i was driving the car last sat and got pulled for my plates in the fookin rain. Needless to say i didnt get out and the coont got soaked Started saying its a 30 quid fine per plate, blha, blah. I stated I have the original plates at home and will put them on asap to which he let me go

Today I had to drive the cossie into work and rather than risk getting pulled i simply cable tied my "Legal" rear plate onto the fancy one

front plate still looks like this but i have the proper one in the boot

Better to just keep a broken normal size plate in the boot and just not run one IMO. This way you can just say it fell off and you'll get it fixed, prob less likely to get into trouble. If you run a small one, you are intentionally breaking the law and are more likely to get fined. Pretty sure thats the way the police would see it anyway.

All IMO of course.

The law is quite clear here - you are not allowed to use anything other than the standard lettering and sizes stipulated by DVLA. What some do is use the standard sizing and spacing but cut the edges off so the plate is the size of the letters / numerals. Nowt illegal about that and has the same effect.

If they have nothing better to do the you might get pulled - more so if the rear plate was miniscule..........

They would give you a warning first (and put it on their Intel system to that effect) and if you got pulled again then you'd be given a fine.

The link below gives the details of the specification of the registration plates that need to be displayed. Covered by the The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001.

TBH all of the above plates seem to have a certian size recess for your plates,

so any smaller plate u put on looks out of place IMO this is my plate
