Default cossy for 4k?

Is it possible to find a good cossy for £4000?

Probably after a 2wd and fairly std as it needs to do a fair few miles a year...

What do you guys think?

A f3ck1n nissan 200 sx more "modern , interesting and stylish than a saff"............. Are you on drugs, if not , you need help ........ big time I take it your a probe lover as well

£4000 will buy you a plenty good, reliable cossie these days, so go for it. 4 years ago i was looking for something practical that i could drive everyday, it had to be a little bit different , so i opted for a cossie and was lucky enough to bag a "j" plate 4x4 in mint condition for £4200. It's never broken down, failed to start or embarrased me on the road and better still, is still worth £4000 - £4500 today

Nissan 200 sx Go sit in the corner you nuttah

Ok... lets have a look at it objectively.

Modern-it is FACT
Stylish-well its a purpose designed 2 door sports coupe. NOT a souped up FOUR DOOR family saloon.
Interesting-Its rarer than a saff, looks pretty cool and is still a RWD Turbo.

Take off the Cossie blinkers!

C'mon. modern it may be in an updated 80's butch hairdressers coupe kinda way but its only rarer because its crap and no one buys them
And as for rwd with a turbo, whats the selling point there when its slow as a week in jail

Think the Cossie Blinkers will stay on thanx

AROFL@S14 200SXs being crap Jus as fast as a cossie std for std, and the same 600+bhp potential too.

Hairdressers car? A 200bhp RWD 2litre turbo with LSD?

VERY nice to drive, and a stage1 SX is fast, trust me, ive got 3 friends with S14a's and ive always been around cossies so know the crack.
Far nicer to drive than a cossie, more fun, better handling, better stopping, better drifting, better looking (esp S14a's)

I dont really like early S14 lights (ie like the one in the autotrader ad) but S14a ARE one (once you put a set of rims on em) of the meanest, coolest cars you can get for the cash, belive me.

Black S14a touring, black leather, clear or tinted indicators, usual stg1 mods(zorst, filter, bar of boost), 18s or 19s, all else std, is one of the best allround roadcars you can get IMO, and will run mid 13s down the 1/4 no problem (proven, mates cars).
Schlaaags love em too, and not hard to see why either.

I LOVE cossies, and i like saffs more than most cossie owners (non saff) do too, but unlike most peoplke whos blinkered and have no experience of these cars, i have loads, and they fookin cool.

When the first of my mates said he was getting a S14a (he had a 200bhp RST at the time) we all said dont be so gay, get a saff cossie.
He ignored us, and we soon realised that was a good thing, the car is way better.
And then a lot of the people who said dont get one, also got one...

Lots of good cars in the world, fuck knows why people wear blinkers for certain car marques, i couldnt give a fuck if somthings ford or ferrari, i like cars for the car not the badge...

Id choose a S14a over a saff (or esc cossie) anyday, CAN get them for 4k too...

A S14 (ie the one in the trader ad) i dont like sooo much, my head says get one if you wanted a stg1 sorta car (as technicly its FAR better), but my heart says saff as i got a strange liking to the old taxi pieces of crap...

But il say it again, S14A's are awesome

Out of the box 200 sx 0 - 60 --- 7.5 sec and 146 mph @ 197 bhp
2 wd saf 0 - 60 --- 5.5 sec and 146 mph @ 202 bhp
4 wd saf 0 - 60 --- 6.5 sec and 150 mph @ 220 bhp

Out of the box they're not quicker, and anyone that thinks they are is dreaming or has only ever compared it to a run in a shagged cossie

Each to their own though

Out of the box? Who the fuck leaves cars std? No saff is ever std, and youd be a fool not to stage1 a S14...

5.5 to 60 std on a RWD saff cos? Bollocks

Its 6.4 (or 6.1, depends what you belive) to 60 std on a S14 not 7.5 (even S13s are usualy quoted at 6.7-7.5 and they 1.8 and not half as quick), and stg1 makes a HUGE difference, even a full zorst does as the std one is shit. Feels flat after 6k as std, full zorst and it zings round to 7.5 no bother.

Yea, S14a's come with 16inch 5spokes, but like any car, the std wheels gets fooked off soon as you buy em!

19s go on with no arch mods...

hmmmmmmm

what price do the decent nissans like that start at then?

are these 1800s or 2 litre as the earlier ones are 1.8 arent they?

what are service parts like for prices?

i reckon pick up a saff easy for 4k in 2wd but whether its going to be a1 and reliable is another story... but should be 2wd range from 1500-7000 with average price aroudn 3500-4000 I think

My mate got hold of a R reg 97k mile black S14a Touring, full leather, identical to the one in pic, mint, for 3600quid...

Thats bare minumum tho, can get a total low miles minter for 6k, but see them a lot higher.

2litre turbo, SR20DET, awesome engine. Its the old S13s that were 1.8.

My mates all abuse theirs to fuck, caned everywhere, sideways everywhere, they been span and crashed plenty o times, and they never miss a beat!

Service parts like brakes etc are normal sorta prices, most of its interchangable with other nissans and can get from a decent motorfactor.
Tons around so easy to get s/h spares too.

If/When i destroy the R32, the engines going in a S14a....

Rikki-- You ever seen a STANDARD S15 in the flesh? Looks poo, i was well dissapointed.
Modded ones look awesome tho.
And IF you can get hold of a S15 Aero THEN they amazing as std as they come with a mad kit.
S15s are well new, well rare, n import only so not easy like gettin a decent S14a

Exactly Steve!!! Nissan is a cool looking, interesting, purpose designed sports car! Its more modern, newer and better value in my opinion. Leather interior with some nice toys and very few rattles and squeaks. You can get really lovely late saffs in great nick that make great sports saloons BUT they cost ALOT more than 4k and thats Alex's budget.

Look at the pictures..do some research on how highly that Nissan is rated and then take off the cossie blinkers! AND DRIVE ONE before slagging them off

Its a VERY good car for small money. John Felstead took me around the Ring in his lightly modded one and I had my eyes closed for alot of it. VERY fast car around the circuit!!!

P.S most chicks who are not clued up about cars will think the Nissan is cool and the 4 door Ford Shite!

hmmm interesting

Yes I had thought about a 200sx the other car I am considering is a BMW 540... with the 4 litre v8, just coz I want to have owned a v8.

As for trapping... don't need a car for that

Only problem I can see on auto trader is that for 4k they are all over 100k, which has got to be pushing it a bit on a turbo motor...?

Its to do with the laws of physics mate Power to weight ratio

Mind you, give them both 400bhp and results would be different, as they would if the roads were wet, or there were complete novices behind the wheels, etc etc...
