Not only is every fooking pertol station's rammed
The escorts bloody playing up
Now i know why so many people flogging thier beloved RS's.........
H E E L L P P !
Right when i got back went to fire her up, she revved to just under 2k which was odd then died. No coughing, splurting, just switched off!
Tried it again & the same outcome, so trying holding the rev's and taking her fo a drive. In first she starts to come on boost then seems to struggle with fuel starvation! The gauge shows just under the quarter tank mark, but never had a problem like this before with this amount of juice(not unless i give it some on a roundabout etc).
So checked under the bonnet for any loose wires, connections etc........Nope all seem fine.
Think it might be related to the clifford alarm or that poxy vecta immobiliser fitted to them!!
Anybody had the same experience's?
Its cutting out all the time, seems to be around the 10-15 second mark once started...........I'm baffled?????

I've got a mate coming round tomorrow morning to try and find the fault.
Its got to be either the alarm or the immobilser at fault................I hope!
Starts up fine, runs then just shuts down like i'm turning the key off. Then the pump rearms itself, has 9-15 sec's of running & dies............then repeats the process again & again!
I give up!!
ARRRG!!

surely if you are able to drive it / give it revs past the said 15 seconds, it must be something other than the immob?? you are saying it only dies at idle yeah? but when driving it splutters and holds back... Is that not a CPS fault, have you removed those multiplug things under the bonnet vent by power steering pot... Been alot of rain lately has the car been inside or out??

The cars been out side while i've been away, not too sure what the weathers been like here TBH.
As i say if you can keep the rev's high enough she'll drive but as you say she'll die at idle........
If its the multiplug that i'm thinking of near the coil, its alreay been sorted out (all bullit connected up!) as i had a problem with the car going into limp mode.
My old man was using it for work as i needed an empty tank for the fuel pump change, he said on the way to work one evening it backfired coming up the sliproad off the M25, then it was ok.
Once he'd finished his shift, he started it drove up to the entrance of work & it died. It kept doing it all the way home!
I'm miffed to it all, this car starting to become an expense i don't need right now

Thats cossie ownership mate, does indeed sound electrical, might be worth getting vecta taken out as a matter of course.... in fact just buy a nice new pectel loom, that'll kill 2 birds etc

Thats Me and Simon who suspects "the most common" fault on a cossie engine, especially considering recent weather, might be worth a shot for the cake of 30 quid..

I'll check out the lines also tomorrow.....................
So is the crank sensor the plug on a bracket angled up to the bottom crank pulley? With a wire running up to the dizzy cap?
Thinking about the fuel lines, i'm betting its not that as it still starts and drives...........
Will Ford have them in stock Damo??

Right have changed the crank sensor today, checked the gapping (30 Thou) and it still isn't playing ball!
Spoke to Mike R earlier about all this, think he's now more baffled than i am! He mentioned checking the alternator wires to make sure that once it was kicking in, its was sending an electical spike to the ECU. But thats all ok.
Going to change the fuel pump tomorrow & fit a new filter in the morning just in case there is a blockage, but it seems very doubtful.............But we live in hope!
So if anybody else has any suggestions on this fault, please feel free!!

Try this,
(You need to be electrically minded)
1) Turn ignition off
2) Disconnect the ecu plug and remove the back cover of the ecu connector.
3) Plug ecu back in and start car.
4) Wait for it to cut out - DO NOT SWITCH IGNITION OFF
5) Measure the voltage (or use lamp) across the ecu power input (first 2 pins on
shorter row on cable side of plug - should be red and brown wire)
(pins 19 and 20)
This proves that the ecu still has power.
If so, link pins 1 and 28 (fuel pump should run without engine)
If this still works, try bump starting the car with help justin case it starts
(do NOT switch ignition after after it has failed)
I suspect the fact that the vecta lamp is playing up, it is that !!!
Get it removed before wasting anymore money as if it hasnt failed already - it will !

Thanks Simon, just need to find a printer to copy all that tip down!
Yeah thats what i think/have been thinking all the time.............its got to be alam related!
Just gotta wait for one of the lads to get his arse round to rip the shite out.
Oh one other thing, if i leave the vecta fob in & turn it all off she'll lmake funny noises like the IGN or the pump's trying to start!!

Simon, have you got a diagram showing the pin layout handy, the first parts ok but if they're not numbered i don't want to fuck anything else up when i link up 1 & 28!
Thanks and i'll keep anyone who's interested posted!

The wider row of pins starts from PIN 1 from the loom entry end (ends at pin 18)
The smaller row of pins starts from PIN 19 from the loom entry end (ends at pin 35)
Pin 1 will be a LARGE BROWN WIRE (1st pin from loom end on large row)
Pin 28 is small blue (or blue.white) wire (10th pin from loom end on small row)
The smaller row of pins starts from PIN 19 from the loom entry end (ends at pin 35)
Pin 1 will be a LARGE BROWN WIRE (1st pin from loom end on large row)
Pin 28 is small blue (or blue.white) wire (10th pin from loom end on small row)

yeah try simons idea, just a note, for those who dont do this day in and day out ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
to get the cover off ecu plug, just unscrew the little philips screw (remove rubber seal ) then slide black cover off its dead easy, and if you look closely you will see pin numbers on it, ,so as long as carefull you wont fudge it...
Jason I am going to PM you details on how to remove a WIPAC unit these replaced the VECTA units, Simon may know if the cuts are different between the two, or the same, if they are the same it wil help you (your mate) no end
As above though just get it ripped out
