Hi all,
Just wondering what your opinion is of stripping a car back down to bare metal and getting it resprayed? I'm just wondering by stripping it down to bare metal, isn't there then a risk of rust creeping in before the car is resprayed?
Also for things like repair panels and new front wings etc. is it possible to get these parts galvonised (eg a front wings, rear arch repair kit) to help slow down the tin worm once you've had these parts put back in and finally the car repainted.
My RSi needs some TLC, but I don't want to strip it all down to get sorted if it will give the rust bug a better chance of settling in once some more paint has been put on.
What do people think? Cheers

dude once stripped down to bares any exposed metal that gets surface rust is easy to deal with but thing is once youve took it down and sorted the area spray a rust inhibiter straight on to seal it, i cant see it being sat about long enough tbh to get that rusty, just be sure you have sprayer lined up for the job and then strip as late as possible befor going for paint i should think the painter will be able to sort any probs for you as he/her have to prep surfaces to be painted anyway

I was just worried if I cleaned off all the underseal and paint, then took the car down to be wielded up and then sprayed, that, like two years down the line rust might pop straight back though, just as a result of cutting it all back to bare mental then slapping the paint back on....
If I'm going to do it, I just want to do it once to be honest, and pay the money and get it properly sorted! I couldn't imagine anything worse than paying something like 3k to get it 'sorted' then, for the rust to come back very quickly again......
Cheers mate, you care unlike the rest of PF! lol
PS - You got those neons fitted yet?! sorry mate couldn't resist!
