Default Almost ready for ND

Been rushing round like a blue-arsed fly this week to get the car sorted and serviced ready for weekend.

Not wanting to be out-done by the Dingle (which now looks fruitless ), I have had some improvements carried out, but the improvements have proved to be too good, and the car now needs a complete re-map at the top end . Now uses all the fuel that it did at 1.8bar held at only 1.4-1.5 bar . So I'm off to see Ahmed today for some more fuel to be thrown in so that the same held boost can be used again. More air + more fuel must equal more power, so that's all good .

Only problem is, the new mod has caused water temp issues, so I will be having to run the interior heating on full until I can sort it all out . I've just run out of time. I do apologise in advance to any discomfort this may cause to passengers on Sunday .

A HUGE thanks to the following:
Harvey for doing his usual going over the car with a fine tooth comb to ensure it is all okay for Sunday .
Pro-alloy boys for the 10 hour day on Monday .
Martin H for lending me his intercooler for measurements .
Ahmed for dropping everything at the last minute to map the car today .

The RS500 intercooler is mint, it as I now have top resolve cooling issues I didn't have before. I only hope I can, or the RS500 intercooler will have to be put back on .

Looks Awesome. Well done Mike, and Proalloy

Mike, have you thought about running a Turbo cooler down in front of one of the front wheels? I have an old oil cooler than will be perfect for the job I reckon. Might just take the load of the radiator. Also I had great results with that water wetter stuff

Lee,
What to run air through . My turbo is not a shonky GT version and doesn't run any water cooling . However, it might be an idea as a supplement to the existing water cooling that comes out of the side of the head .

Anyway, I'm now of to Ahmed's .

Laters .

With that barn door of a IC in the front perhaps its quite normal to have hot water temps.

That looks superb Mike

I've been doing preparations on the MR2 this week - fitted new brakes all round - took about two hours, and the car is now ready. I have also purchased a new Robbie Williams CD especially for Sunday.

Got to love Jap cars

Hi Mike I had a big bar and plate intercooler like the one in the pictures 10 years ago. I had water temp issues (and was bloody heavy!) and have changed to a sizeable tube and fin core (which I assume what Pro Alloy is recommending).

I remember driving the car hard one night just after fitting the bar and plate type cooler and the inlet pipe too hot to touch but outlet pipe was cold with condensation on the outside!

Just couldn't live with the temp gauge rising in traffic on 30C degree days. Tried Redline water wetter with no effect. Maybe a different story in your autumn, winter or spring

Hope this helps mate

Wayne,
I would agree that your double RS500 one would be ideal, but you don't do this in Escort width yet ..... 30°C ambients yesterday saw a max of 50°C @ 7000rpm @ 1.9 bar held (and all with a single 0.6mm WI jet - a second one is required though to keep the EGTs down) . There is no way your standard RS500 intercooler could compete with that .

Ryan,
I would recommend the Pro-alloy double thickness RS500 style - it will be awesome in a Sierra (shame it doesn't fit Escorts ).

Vic,
In 30°C ambients, the static and slow speed water temps are mint, it's just on full bore runs that the temps gradually climb to 100°C. I can keep this down by running internal heating on full, but in 30°C temps already, it's not very confortable . I have yet to try ducting all the available air through the radiator, as a fair amount of the bottom part is in direct flow.

Lee,
I already have a Radtec alluminium radiator on. I'm going to try a few things and if they don't work, it will be a Pro-alloy 50mm one .

Paul,
He was actually in Norfolk in the morning taking his daughter's horse back, so nothing to do with me .

Also, if you have been waiting for Ahmed to map it for 9 months WTF isn't the car been finished - what have you been doing for the last 9 months - it looked like a bomb had gone off inside the car . You're lucking Ahmed wasn't there, or he would probably have told you to come back when the car was "ready" for mapping .
