Default Leon Cupra R?

Anyone had one of these as a small 5-door family car? Are there any particular benefits for either the 210bhp or 225bhp versions (apart from the power difference! ). They seem pretty quick compared to a Cossie but quite useful over a lot of other hot hatches as they have the rear doors. I could ask this on a Seat Forum ( as someone will observe I'm sure ) but I find you get a less "loaded" view on a forum not particularly to do with the marque.
Are they economical on the motorway with the long 6th gear?
I seem to remember it did OK on 5th Gear even compared to Focus RS?

Are the coil pack problems a thing of the past as all the dodgy ones been replaced? Any more opinions?

My mate has the Cupra 20v turbo (about 178 ish bhp) and thats pretty nice. The 225 bhp must go like a rocket. They handle nice and have excellent brakes. Look nice as well.

Nah, AMD and Jabba also quote gains in the region of 270/300.

Well a friend got his Ibiza Cupra TDi PD160 re-mapped using Revo Software they were quoting 195bhp and around 300ft/lb..... End result IIRC was 205bhp and 304ft/lb.

Lots of the peeps over on www.seatcupra.net have had re-maps and have got the same bhp that was quoted before they bought, give or take a few bhp or lb/ft here or there.

Funny this is just had a race with one on the by-pass (he was well up for it) passed him at a fair rate , but it went okk then slowed down to come to roundabout , then we went for it from standing start and the cossie destroyed it but it was probably standardish and it was shifty by the looks , and will be more reliable than my cossie the guy was okk pulled up next to me and asked what power i had and that he could not get near me , but fair play to him he tried great looking car

Mate has a 1.8T sport A4 with a JabbaSport conversion and that went very well with only 201bhp so I would think the Leon will go like buggery. Look quite cool as well but I would rather have the A3 as it just looks a far more classy car. Just my opinion though

been on there, and liek i say, tis full of bullshit figures all banded round by the sellers that the people who buy it believe

i see them on a regular basis day in and day out , so to say ive had a bit of experiance may be a small understatement, the best ones are the ones that come in running rough , after a while they are forced to tell me they have been 'serial port chipped' (enter tuner name in the quotes to suit) and they tell me its cost them Ł400 to have it done, was ok for a few months ( if there lucky) , then i flash the whole ecu back to std and hey presto - cars sweet - take heed

Aye, the chips that you get to try for a few hours before you buy... My mate got one of these before he bought his re-map on the Ibiza!!

I thought it felt quicker with the "Trial Chip" in it than it does now re-mapped.. do they have slightly higher boost etc to make it feel quicker??

Ive got one, clocked up 13,000 in 6 months averages around 30 on motorway when on speed limit obviously. Driving to and from work Harrogate to York averages 33-36mpg on a normal A road traffic. B road swift journey home gets me between 28 and 30mpg.

Had no problems with it at all and its got all the handling ability i'll ever need. I know new model comes out in september october time so current model should drop.

Hope that helps

Ben

all sales plans mate

the trials actually use a diferant part of the chip than the remap so they also present there own problems after the time span runs out - but thats another story.

RS Ben,
I know new model comes out in september october time so current model should drop.

new model is very nice and very technical in its class, but dont worry about the price of the cupra r dropping yet as the new replacement hasnt even been built, looking like 2007 for the new leon cupra r, just watch out for the fr diesels 1st

Not heard of any of the later ones going wrong. I was previously warned about the gearboxes on earlier ones but not seen any examples. As for mine it clocks up the miles and hasnt missed a beat. Seriously can't fault it.

Luckily havent had to replace disks and pads yet, but yeah expecting a large bill when i do have to. Tyres cheapest I found Pirrelli P zero rosso at 225x40x18 is Ł105 each so i dont think thats to bad is it? Tyres are just about on limit now, they lost alot of rubber in winter, new car clutch bite (honest), dumb ass driver n wet = spinning wheels up to third without even trying to look like a prat.

a mate has one, with a supposed 270bhp remap from j****sport....and it couldnt shake off another mates 180bhp Prelude VTEC. well it pulled away, but not enough to believe it had a further 90bhp and proberbly twice the torque

as markk says, mostly pub talk

I had a go with one the other day. My Escort Cossie is 330 BHP, and out of the roundabout he took off, pulled into the slow lane and caned it. It was a fair match, but I was gaining on him very slowly. Pulled up at the next roundabout, and he winds his window down, and we have a quick chat. Great that my car is LHD so could talk. He say’s to me, your car goes quite well. I ask him if his is standard, and he laughs, and say no. As I pull off, I spot the Gumball 3000 sticker on the front bumper. I would have loved to stop and look under the bonnet, but work was calling.

That because mines a Cupra and not a Cupra R. The Rs have different bumpers and 18" wheels.

Note I added the pic because it makes me laugh especially as mine is a Company Car

I reckon the average chipped Lcr will see 260bhp. Custom remaps are preferable to generic maps. Warranty issues are the reason for using the serial port tuning. It can be switched back to stnd for warranty work etc.

Lcr is a great car and i would have one tomorrow if there were enough big turbo kits available to take it to 350-400bhp.

Compression on the ibiza cupra is 9:5:1 on the 210/225 Lcr/s3/TT engines its 8:5:1.

I am running 350bhp in an Ibiza cupra 1.8t 20v running stock internals.

www.jabbasport.co.uk

click turbo kits, then click technical spec in the bottom right. There claiming 9:5.1 for the lower spec 1.8t engines and 9:0.1 for the 225 Lcr etc. They are vag experts.
