Default RS Automotive RS200 .... help!

My brother in law has decided to pull his finger out of his arse and carry on with the RS200 replica he has bought. Its a proper RS Auto Evo200 one (not the shonky maestro one!) and is rear engined cossie.

The main problem he (and it looks like im roped into it now!) has is the gearbox side of things. He has a Porker box and adaptor but no linkage or clutch for it but has been told that he is better off sourcing a Renault 21 or 30 box?? Is this true and what exactly will he need?

He also needs to source the engine mounts. I dont think he uses standard cossie ones as the brackets on the spaceframe chassis are different!! Does anyone know the ones to use?

He's tried calling RS Automotive but they are never there and when they are they dont want to know!!!!!

Any help would be great!

Cheers
Chris

David - ok mate cheers will take a peek there in the morning! I would defo buy one over an escort cos! Never been afan of replica cars but it looks awesome! (Even in the shonky green its currently in!!). Can you do me a favour and put the pics of his one up on here as im not an RSOC member and it wont let me view images!

Puss - SVA all went through ok! Failed twice at Chelmsford, took it to Southampton and they passed it (even though i didnt do a thing to change it the second time!!). Seems like Chelmsford are power crazed pricks!!!!!

I had Steve Dennis both times!!!!!! Proper arsehole! Failed on some really stupid things, then took it back and it failed on the headlights being to high and he wouldn't let me adjust them on site, then rebooked for the afternoon and he failed the lights on not being intense enough!! They were fookin 130w H4's and were fine! Took it to Southampton and they said they were fine! The guy at the Southampton test centre also pointed out that he knew I would be putting hte HID's back in so the lights intensity wasnt really an issue!!

Will have to get a look at your brothers at some point Chris

Pics of the car from Croft. Only stage 1 just now but he is going for some more power. Bloke says that it does really well on track though.

Hi Chris

That's my EVO 200 in the photos, I didn't build it but have owned it for about a year now.

You could fit any number of transaxles if you have the skill/time/equipment but the most popular is the Renault UN1 Transaxle 5 speed unit, mine is from a from a Renault 25 V6 the ratios are OK for the road but rather poor for the track, but it depends really on what you want to use the car for.

The engine and transaxle mounts and gearchange linkage for mine all came from Mercury Motorsport who are now run by RS Automotive. Their web site appears to be down at the moment but I was speaking to Gary Campbell, who runs the company, last month and he was quite helpful.

I could PM you his mobile number and if you had a list of parts I would hope that he could sort you out.

Chris.....you need to get a different bellhousing for the 21T box to fit. I've got a number at home for a guy that does it. Plus you use the Renault clutch system(hydrolic) with a cossie clutch cover as far as I can remember.

21Turbo boxes are used quite a bit in the world of kit cars - often attached to chevy & rover V8s - they can cope with circa 400bhp before the primary shaft tends to let go - but you can buy uprated parts fairly easily!!!

If hes looking for a box & clutch mechanism I have all parts needed - PM me.

Cheers for the help guys.

Jim - I did speak to Gary this morning and apparantly he doesnt make the UN1 bellhousings anymore and has no plans to, so it kind of ditches that idea. Gear ratios arent really an issue as he will only use it on the road i imagine. Gary Campbell suggested a Porker 993 box with AP 7 1/2" clutch?? God knows!

Lee - you have pm my friend!!

how late is this ?

ive just sold a new renault 21 close ratio rear engined gearbox and cosworth bellhousing, incl the quarter shaft conversion adapters from renault to ford AND the gear selection setup to enable cable shift ( cables included ) and rosejointed selection

i had the lot in the back of a metro that i was building , the full monty with uprated input shaft as well

there are various diff ratios you can put in the UN1 to bring the gears closer together and there a pretty strong box really for what they are

stu21t - here's their details mate, speak to Paul Horner or Gary Campbell (think Gary works at another site though).

RS Automotive Racing
11, The Vanguards, Vanguards Way, Shoeburyness, Southend-On-Sea, Essex SS3 9QJ
Tel: 01702 299517

markk - doh! The box he has is defo a 19887 911 5 speed box, he has the adaptor plate, all he needs is the engine/box mounts, clutch and the linkage. I think Gary Campbell is venturing over next week to see him to get it all sorted.
