Default Heated Lambda Wiring

Anyone know whats the deal with these?

What do they require 12v ignition? or less?

Are they relay switched or is the heater on permanantly?

Help would be greatly appriceited.

Quote from Stu:

All good lambda sensors have an internal heater fitted to ensure the tip is at correct minimum operating temperature at all times.

This should be wired to the fuel pump operating circuit so the current hungry heater circuit is only active when the fuel pump is active for both ease of operation and sensor tip life.

The output from the sensor is then also fitted with a marelli terminal into the ecu multiplug for OE performance and reliability of course.

You can wire them up in different ways mate ..

4-wire have 1xsignal, 1x earth, 2x for heater (1 is earth)
Many are wired from ignition supplies, or relay .. some from ECU.
The heater is there mainly to get the signal running as soon as poss. I dont think the load is an issue, as I have connected a few up from scratch, when I was fitting my own lambda, into ignition supply. Most run 0-12v. Some run a 5v system (like the Rover V8 Gems, for instance)

Older Yanks just have a single-wire. These work OK too, just a bit slower to run.

"Cargo" brand are OK .. 4-wire are about 40 squid.

cheers bong, top stuff.

will check with stu & kenny what operating voltage they require as the looms are for them.

Gotta love this site.

12v for the Marrelli sensor mate. I just grafted a lambda and aircon loom into a Pectel loom and it was wired into the ignition feed. Fuck doing that again....

lol

cheers Daz, yeah i had to intergrate twin amps and a few other mods into a standard pectel loom, which wasnt nice either.

Did you wire the Lamba to ignition live or pump live?

Ignition live like it was in the standard (unbelievably messy) Ford loom.

I had to graft in the fuel pump relay, ECU relay, 2 aircon relays, all the aircon loom, the coilpack loom, the 6 pin plug from the original loom to run the EFI system and then the MSD air to air injector controler (doesn't use Pectel boards) and the SECS monitor....Next time it will be a whole loom from scratch cos it will be easier.
