Default IT gurus... Help!

Now I'm pretty good with computers myself, but I've got a problem that I'm not too sure about.

Basically my PC was running as normal then suddenly it just died but when it tried to reboot itself it couldn't load windows, not even in safe mode. If I leave it a few hours and try again it will go into windows but after 5 mins or so it dies again and won't load.

I tried a CMOS/BIOS reset, no good. I tried a system restore, also no good. Don't really want to go to the drastic measures of formatting my C drive or ripping it out and putting another one in.

Anybody got any ideas what could be causing this?

I also thought it to be a heat issue but I'm sure the fan was running alright although I was very tired at the time so I'll double check later on!

Ta!
