I don't know what size the bores are until I strip it down.

I need to take it apart because when it was built apparently all the ring gaps were put in a line rather than the usual 120 apart and its passing oil big time. with only 120ish compression.

now it COULD just be a fooked bottom end etc in which case its going to be a bit more indepth than this quick pull apart job.

not sure how long its been together.... few thousand miles maybe? ive only done about 500 miles...

basically I run an open breather on it... If I don't it smokes like hell through the exhaust... but it chucks out of the catch tank about a pint every 100 miles!!

maybe the breather and return is a severe mess and not returning to the sump at all but something is definately amiss.

Ah right, yeah excessive crank case pressures sound like a possible symptom of ring aligment.

In which case fingers crossed you can just lift them up, move them, put them back down and they will be ok, i would rehone the bores and use new rings though personally.

I know its tempting.

But its another £75ish for rings for an engine of unknown quality.

I'm not overly fond of the ZVH engine and it could be £75 towards rebuild costs on the 1600 cvh.

I have a decent car for daily driver... a mk2 XR2 project car that I want to start getting my teeth into and this mk2 fiesta turbo that I just want to use for a few run what you brungs and A road weekend blasts.

It will no doubt turn round to bite me, as if youre doing a job may aswell do it properly but in this case I'll make that decision when its apart.
