Someone upstairs is really trying to push my buttons today, ive just had one of the most stressful lunchtimes ever, I then tried to salvage some of my lunchbreak by going into Tesco for nuts (gets me thru the afternoon instead of a fag) and get kicked out of there empty handed cos the Fire Alarm went off Totally wasted my lunchbreak and am more highly strung than earlier

i really dont know why people quit cold turkey there is seriously no need!

I used patches........found it alot better...and i havent had one for years now!

you aint weak for seeking help...your weak giving into to people who say your weak just cus they dont have the strength to addmit when they need help!

its that stupid fucking attitude that your shouldnt ask for help thats causes half of the problems!

Get help...doctor...counseler...hypnotist....what ever....if you are that serious about quitting you will....not meaning to be harsh but if you aint 100% we dont need to hear about all your woes! sorry but fact of life...if your serious but are truly struggling ...ask for help...no real friend will critisise(sp) you......best of luck!

Patches may have worked for you but that's your opinion, I personally do not believe in using anything, I believe its a habit that needs breaking, and have no intention of wearing / using anything that puts Nicotine directly into my bloodstream. Im at the stage now where I have no Nicotine left in my body so why would I want to use something that puts it back in again? All im fighting now is the craving, something that is in the mind, if I keep my mind busy I dont think about it.
I find your reply quite rude and of no help at all to me tbh

It may have worked for you, but it's scientifically proven that it doesn't work for most people.

In fact, if anything, the nicotine patch industry is a nice little subsidiary benefit for the tobacco industry, most of whom have a vested and financial interest in it!

Clare - like you say, keep busy hun. Keep it out of mind!

Good going Clare - fight through it and dont look back. Treat yourself to a small chocy bar. Once you've kicked the fags you'll feel way healthy enough to go out and shed any pounds you may have put on.

Great advice from Stu - If I were you I'd print out his remarks and statistics and pin them on your wall in the office to remind you what you're fighting against.

Cola - Frankly obsurd remark about going herbal. You won't kick the habit that way I guarantee it. I had a friend who eventually quit ciggies and persuaded himself it was ok to have a cigar instead. He'd be desperate to go to the pub all the time jsut so he could buy a cigar and would go through at least a pack of cigars a day.
The only reason you'd want to ingest smoke is the psychological image of the nicotine addiction. You have to be smarter than that.

Rich Pon - my friend who quit and had the 'occasional' cigar also tried the patches and rather tellingly he still uses them......so basically they dont work. I figure you can use them to break the social addiction and get used to not going for a fag break but sooner or later you have to face the hard part of nicotine deprivation. Going cold Turkey is the way to go.

Incidently Stu wasnt correct in saying it was the most chemically addictive substance. Its been proved that Nicotine is more addictive than Heroine. But there are plenty of other narcotics that are far more addictive. Methanphetamine is alot more chemically addictive than heroine. Cocaine isnt particularly addictive would you believe.
If you consider my previous remark about quitting nicotine being harder than quitting heroine then jsut remember the Mark Renton scene from Trainspotting

FYI Keith, it was tongue in cheek. Going herbal would not be a jump from fags. I meant that I would be smoking without nicotine. I imagine cigars contain that, no?

Cola - my point exactly. He went to cigars which still have nicotine in them. Either way, herbal or cigars you aint doing yourself any favours.
If you think about it in literal terms its pretty crazy - you eat and drink to fuel your body but in the case of smoking you dry a plant extract, burn it, then ingest the smoke because it gives you a tingle - its fookin crazy!
