Jag XJR V8
....anyone else got one or been in one?.....As most know i have one and still cant get over the performance of it ...370bhp 385ft lb torque 0-60 5 secs 155mph limited top speed....2 ton 5 speed auto......I will say its the best car i have ever owned....better than the F-Car too!!!!Turn traction off and swith to sport mode and the thing turns in to wheelspinning maniac that really feels like it shouldnt be that quick
What more could you want?..V8,a supercharger,4 doors,leather,climate,traction control,sport mode...Well done Jaguar

i am seriously thinking about getting one. is it easy to get the rev limiter removed? if so how would it be done, something like a unichip?
whats the pro's and con's of the car, is yours the one with the nikasil piston bores which have probs?
how easy to put a din-size flip out screen head unit in there (i have one which cost loads which i would want to use) and maybe some other ice if its not too hard to take the interior apart!
would it be advisable to put a bigger crank pulley on to get more boost, and get a bigger intercooler or would it make it totally stupidly powerful.
and also is it possible to use the J-gate to drive it as a manual?

I agree completely with you Phil (blimey, that sounds weird, having to agree you are actually talking sense for once!)
I used to drive around a lot in a Daimler Super V8 and i must say its one of the most fantastic cars ive ever driven.
Effortlessly quick, handled ok for a big barge, nice comfy interior.
Only downsides are 15mpg (thats taking it fairly steady too!) and the fact the gearboxes cant really take it if you hammer them for long.
Oh and the auto box is SO slow to change gear, not much point having a supercharger for lagfree power and then having to wait for the box to engage, but thats only when trying to pull out and overtake not when you are already going briskly to begin with.
All in all though, awesome amount of car for the money if you buy a secondhand one a few years old.

Percy....
No idea how to de limit them...but i guess if you could your looking at a 170 + mph top speed!!!!
Tuning..no idea...its quick enuff IMO..although the lastest has 390bhp so i guess its worth looking for superchip as the 0-60 goes down to 4.7 secs
I dont think it will be that easy to change the stereo...although TBH the std system is fantastic!
The J - Gate is 2 3 4 ...so 2 is 1/2 and 4 is 4/5 sort manual...not great...TBH in sport mode it changes right on the limit and kickdown is instant.

A lot of them were dealt with as was the XKR in regards to the liners - those that have been done carry a plate on the slam panel (if I remember correctly) to show it has been done.
5 speed box in the XKR is a Mercedes box and hilarious when launched in 1st gear - gets there really quickly. Doesn't handle very well though IMO.

cheers for the info.
anyone know if the slightly older 6 cylinder version is any better on fuel? i know its not quite as quick but the 6-pot is pretty bulletproof and i can get one alot cheaper (plus i can get it in the turquoise colour i like with the older style wheels which are nicer IMHO)

The Jag will look very dated and pony in that colour, although when it was new thst was THE colour to get in my opinion
P.S I seemed to remember you had the 6 cylinder one Ima. How does it compare with the 8. Only ever driven the 8.

...its a 98 so very suitable....a very modern colour imo its a bluey/green
It is noticably quicker than the 6,as this spins the wheels with TC off the 6 didnt....but my missus preferred the interior in that one...i prefer the v8 inside...more classy with the pod style instruments...Other than that handling feels the same TBH....both great cars...the v8 lump does look well cool
