Default what do u think ??

hi all the story is my mate done a compression pressure test on my engine and 3 of the cylinders are 90psi and the over cylinder is only 80psi now we did the test when the engine was cold some one did say to do the test when the engine is hot it has got low compression mahle pistons and rings but he said 90psi is far too low so could mean my pistons rings are fooked and i could be looking at a bottom end rebuild. i can not see how it may need a bottom end rebuid as it has had a fall rebuild not so long a go .here is the engine spec any help would be good

if the gauge is right then 90psi is very low though they should be done hot.

why have you compression tested it? are you having running problems?

Hi Mate.

Those compression figures are very low.

It does look like Piston rings could be to blame. Regarding the fact that the engine has been rebuilt recently, we know it hasn't got the Double Valve springs that the spec states and what on earth are 'Competition' Bearings? Also, I didn't know that Cometic made a Head Gasket for the 1600CVH? What I am really trying to say is that you can never be 100% sure of any engine rebuild unless you KNOW whats in it.

Hope it works out OK for you. If you need any help, give me a call!

the only prob i'm getting is somtimes when i change up a gear the engine jerkes and then hesitates not all the time maby 2 or 3 times and will not pull and when i'm just crusinig along and it will hesitate but when i'm boosting and it hesitates it will cut the turbo out and somtime i have pulled up and the rev gauge has shot up and then the engine dies it will restart ok but it dose smell of petrol but is seems to clear itself and drive fine , it has just been doing this the 2 weeks i would say it plays up more when it is cold

yes....

engine hot and floor the throttle whilst doing it.. couple of turns over and should give you the results...

then I tend to leave it a few minutes before unscrewing it to see if it drops off.

ash to be honest with ya mate it did have double valve springs when i had the cam put in nearly 5 years ago but didn't check when i got the new head back from euro engines who i bought it through it is defineatly ported and polished and with a cvh 35 kent cam i was told it was a cometic head gasket when the engine was rebuilt at pts in november 2000 it has now got a genuine ford head gasket as per karl norris's advice also i did a compression test just after the head gasket blew and it was 135psi on number 1 and 140 psi on number 4 as the head gasket had blown across 2 and 3 i re did the comprssion test after doing the head gasket and it was number1 = 135 psi
number 2= 140 psi
number 3 = 140 psi
number 4 = 140 psi
i remeber them like it was yesterday as you know that car was my baby and if it was that fooked as your new compressions state i would have rebuilt the bottom end myself. as regards the competition bearings it is what i was told again when it was rebuilt so i am just going on what was told to me
i hope you get it sorted mate as it a lovely car and is 4 and a bit years of my life and their has been blood sweat and tears over that car and it near on skinted me as i would go without so that could have the best i could afford if not more than i could afford ( my friend mister plastic)
reading about my old car like this has upset me and p*ssed me off that euro engines did not put the correct springs in the head all i can do is apologise mate
all the best
Dan
