It's a good system, I've been using it for 7 weeks now and it's only gone tits once when we had a power cut mid test.

If the tester is computer literate, 50% are now over 50 so probably arn't, then it works well.

Don't worry about 3dr sapphs, I see that V5's have the wrong details on them, colour, vin number etc quite regularly.

It's here to stay so get used to it!

Jim this could be bad news for you as you have a K reg so the car will be tested on the advanced emisions test unless you can prove the engine in it came from a 91 or 92 car. I assume you've binned the CATS.

It's not even in full effect yet, mates garage hasn't recieved their smart cards, or even the training yet as they didn't have anyone with a card so still some way to go before everyone has it. Agree, it will stop 13 MOT's before lunch tho

does it affect free re tests within 2 weeks? i heard that if you take the car away to cary out the work you've gotta pay for a full test again also does it affect the price of a test (normally £25 round here)

We used to do 7 day free retest, but when you fail on average 1/3rd you work for free every 4th day. Sod that!!!

VOSA don't like discounted tests, so why do them?

We also find we can only do 11 tests a day and we get a fair bit of work when you mention paying for a retest.

Shouldnt affect price as the current price is worded as 'recommended price' ie £45 beer tokens Which aint bad really...if its a proper test thats done...cos a full proper test takes about an hour (including paper work) so £45 is about right for an hours labour to carry out a safety inspection on a car

As far as I'm aware a re test will generally be charged for. Test price shouldn't be affected, but it willl vary from garage to garage I suppose. If you know the tester, nothing changes

No free re-test Means the garages will get a lot more work if gotta pay another £45 for a re-test. Just another way ffor the Government to screw the motorist and get the 'old' cars off the roads

seems like nothin much has changed then. only no more free re tests is a bit of a bummer. then again if you find a tester to not test on emmisions i guess he'll probably give ya a free re test for the other stuff

So you think I should retest your car for free and earn nothing, just because you did not maintain it propperly?

Sorry, but that's not my fault it's not roadworthy!

And I'm not going to work for free - DO YOU????

I see your point moose, but I think a lot of unscroupulous garages will fail it just to get a retest and work done fee , It happens all the time, and most of us on here are lucky enough to be able to take a failed MOT car away, fix it and take it back within a few days to get the MOT, why does it need a full MOT re-test if its just somthing simple like a worn ball joint/ small rust patch?? And the bit about not maintaining it properly is bollox as well IMHO, as most of the time its very hard to see faults unless the car is on a ramp being inspected with a lamp, which happens rarley in most cases.

So I have to pay another £45 because theres something very minor that is easily fixed. Nice.

not read the back of a failure sheet have you......

minor points are partial retests before the end of the next working day. anything else is another test.
