Default RWD is soooOOOO SCARY :-)

Right me and my mate (TURBO TERRIER) a.k.a johnny were out in my car a while ago and on coming in and exiting a fairly small roundabout in an industrial area i gave it some gas and the thing went totally broadside then kicked me left as i wa fighting to keep her straight it kicked again was probably doing aboout 50 maybe 60mph proper going and so was my heart i then lost control and was sliding towards kerb still fighting to keep her on the road it then mounted a kerb (front right) wheel and from there it was a bit of a blur but on stopping i was 2 or 3 foot from a lamp post so then looked up and 50 yrds down the street a cop van was sitting with guy from the van looking up i turned round and to my suprise was driving fine and to see if cops were coming basically took her and parked up to inspect damage expecting the worst only to find a lightly scuffed wheel and sidewall of my tire is major ripped but so thankful and now i know how dangerous these cars can be if not driven properly but still im thankfull no one was hurt and theres not much damage still so much fun though

Done it too many times with the beemer, first RWD car ive driven, and even though its not got much power, in the wet, its proper mental if i give it some beans

Was proper sideways one night, back end kicked back in, and out the other way, i lost it, back end hut the kerb, seemed to grip on the kerb and shot me across the road, into another kerb
Got out, had a look, then checked it all again in the morning, but all seemed well touch wood*

But aye, if your not careful, it is a bit mental! and very unpredictable!

it happens so quick don't it - then slows down as you start hitting things

glad it wasn't worse mate.

take care.

Does this not totally answer your last post of "whats the point of front wheel drive". The answer being is that people like you who cant drive rwd properly can have just as much fun and have more chance of negotiating bends better.

spinning it can be looked at another way, you know how the car rects, its limmits and how to controle it, but do it in the right environment!!!!

if you dont spin it, you dont know how far you can push it imo!

oh and NEVER back off if the back end does kick out, the worst thing u can do, despite it being the first thing you want to do!!

How are you ment to drive it properly then if you dont go out and make some mistakes
Takes alot of practice, its not something you end up with the first cossie you buy

I always found it a nightmare in my Saph, it probably needed new bushes/diff etc etc.

Find it much more fun in other RWD cars

RWD is the ultimate, however respect it and think about and be aware of what you are doing and you'll be fine. Don't plant the accelerator and change gear flat out when you are turning for instance, unless you can control/anticipate if it decides to break

To be honest RWD cars can be a handfull at times they take some getting use too

It was ok for me as a kid there wasn't that many front wheel drive cars about then(showing my age now)

I driven/owned cars like the Mk1 escorts /Mk2 escort/ lotus Sunbeam/Fiat Miafiori 131 abrath racing, all tuned , and to be honest the best handling cars with a plated LSD no douwt were the mk1/mk2 escorts , we had to learn how to drive them , I have driven rwd all my life and I still lose it from time to time

if you come from a Fwd car they drive totally different thats why most peeps go for the 4wd as they are easer to drive and more forgiving

thats my thoughts anyway

Just treat it with respect and don't let yourself get into situations where you're thinking "hmmm if i really blat it now, and it kicks i can control it" or "this is the perfect place to try broadsliding"

Just respect it and the road conditions and gradually apply the power if you're not in the straight line

Just another thought...

How do guys in big powered saphs etc.. cope in the wet

The amount of times ive had the arse out unexpectedly in the wet is unbelievable, even with 110bhp

Any RWD car over 300bhp must be a fucking hog in the wet ?

Quick Reply: RWD is soooOOOO SCARY :-)
