Default Building a N/A CVH. Tips/advice

After long discussions the missus has now decided she is going to keep her XR2i.

It was dyno'd at 130bhp in the past but it's last run only saw 115bhp which was somewhat dissappointing We are therefore now planning a rebuild on the engine over the winter.

I really want to concentrate on the bottom end (although a few head tweeks are on the cards). Any ideas that I could/should deal with whilst it's in this many pieces?

The car is being kept as a CVH to keep it true to its roots. So no suggestions of ZVH or Zetec conversions
