Default Anyone own (or owned) ST24's?

Leaving my job at end of month, so lose my works van and need to get a car...

Seen a fairly nice ST24 (lesser seen 4 door saloon as opposed to 5dr hatch) on an S plate (1998), usual 2.5 V6 ST24 (dark metallic red kinda colour, air con, PAS, ABS, heated front screen, leccy windows all round etc). Has 130k on clock tho

Seems to be in fairly good nick too, paint okay etc, only thing I can see wrong with it (only had a look round it so far, not been in/out in it yet) is I reckon it has had a whack up the arse - rear bumper got a crack in it (not masive or really obvious, but there, and paint flaking off a little), and there's overspray on the tailpipe, and the boot lid is a tad out of line aswell (sitting high at one hinge, and very tight to the tail light at the other side)

Reckon it probably needs a new rear bumper, not sure if it's just hinge damage yet to the boot (boot lid itself don't appear to be dented, just out of line)

Anyone had one or got one and know much about em? Just after info and advice really

BTW, car is up for £1600 with MoT and Tax (tax till Nov)

The bumpers can crack with prolonged high-speed driving - it's pretty draggy and can split from the bottom edge.

I've been running an ST-24 for the last 9 months and its nice

Bit thirsty, but a lovely car to drive and i can make good progress in it too

Points to watch are:

Water pump failure - the plastic impellors break, then the headgaskets break, and cos of the cost of parts, your engine is scrap (there is a bill for 4K in my history for a new lump!!!!! ) so check this!!!

Secondary throttles can jam, this causes a lack of power from 3500rpm up over. Worst case scenario is a 130 quid bill, but a good bartering point

Any more questions, shoot

Neil.

£4k

Is 130k pretty high for one of these? or is that not too bad on an engine of this type?

And whats the "usual suspects" to look for?

Steven RW off here ran a V6 for well over 200K i think, the engine was fine and is still going strong from what I hear!

If it's been well looked after then 130K shouldnt be a problem IMO.

The usual suspects I have listed above

I know a few who have owned them, most run on timing chain and thats the only thing they've ever said is a problem as a lot of garages won't replaced them or want crazy money

Try www.screentrade.co.uk for insurance thats who my mates was through
