most pleased i will have a plumbed in extinguisher on my car!!
however.. one question.. how effective is heatproof tape exactly? obviously it's advisable to run cables sensibly, but does the heatproof tape allow you to run them pretty much where you want?

Bong, but the fire looks to have oringinated from arounf the passenger headlight, hence my question.
As its no where near anything hot, i.e turbo or exhaust.
I couldnt understand how the fuel got ignited, other than from electrical spark, i,e COIL

Serious question - as already asked, why do people leave them off????
Surely sooooo obvious the stuff that is nearby is going to get fried without it... isn't it???

The only time mine is off is when setting boost up, and I make sure the clutch cable is well out of the way, and the bonnet goes straight up after a run...
Could have been well nasty that!!![Embarrassment](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/redface.gif)

I will actually admit to running without one for about a year.
The only reason I didn't have one is the old one had broken free of the mounting, and caught fire after a hard duel carraigeway blast.
I did my first track day without a heatshield, and finding yourself at the end of the straight at Donnington with no brakes is not fun

Funnily enough, and just having looked back at the pics, I did exactly what Stu's done, and run my loom up the top of the wing - looks neat and tidy, and there's no wiring down by the turbo at all.

I've just bought a new standard heatshield for mine. The old one was cracked and worn and when I took the old one off I saw it had obviously been touching the exhaust because it had burnt a hole right through it.
What I want to know as well is why don't Ford put any foil or anything on the inside of them.

Yes, that is the Escort one. Not sure if you can get the 2wd one, with it being a bit older. Possibly. Worth giving them a bell though. I wouldn't have thought the 2wd ones would wear out usually, because they're metal aren't they? Although I think they are insulated aren't they?
