thing youve got to remember is theres alot of people with alot of cash, so to us
its an escos, great car, what alot of people are aiming to own one day but to
someone who is loaded its like us having a 1.1 c reg fiesta, breaking down somewhere and thinking fook it, leave it where it is and grab a cab home, and cant be arsed to go and get it later. may well have been a cheap toy for someone with a large wallet, who knows.

im sorry huys but WTF you on about saying it's theft?

it's all 100% above board and is the CORRECT way of dealing with abandoned viechles. gaz has done NOTHING wrong in the lightest...

if it was a snotty old 1.6GL sierra nobody would have battered an eyelid, especially becasue this stuff happens all the time (its common practice for people to claim abandoned veichles)

but as stated by others, i'd be worried about the real owner tracing you down...

Yeah but if the owner has gone down and just left it where it is, if it was me and i was in jail the first phone call i would make would not be to the DVLA informing them that i had gone down, please do summit with my broken down escort

If it was me i'd get it on the road and put a different plate on it...

What is the reg anyway, maybe someone from here might have known the owner, or maybe previous owners etc... then u might be able to find out where the current owner is and hide if necessery

steviep,
Thats probably cos everyone in the area knows it belongs to the local drug baron who's currently banged up and wouldn't be stupid enough to touch it
but i dont think you'll think like that, if u see an escos down sum old road, and looked at it closly and see it anit had any tax for a number of years, i think ur first thoughts would be "I HAVING THIS" and then think bout what happenings after...... i know i would and meny others too

i was thinking this myself. the old owner is probably a right hard bastard and everyone knew to keep their grubby mitts off it.

i'd bang a private plate on it and sell it on if it was mine.

Very strange. I dont know what to say really. It is without a doubt claiming somebody elses property. Just like if you find a Wallet. Hand it in the Police and no one claims it you get it.

I would have made more efforts to find out who owned it. Especially after you got it back to your place. Whats it come up on HPi like?

total madness, very intersted to hear what has happened since your last post Gaz. As has been said its all been done above board. Can't believe it was well in sight and untouched, no matter who may have owned it, someone from a diff area would have spotted it and robbed it for parts at least.

As said at the top of the post, it was in 2002, so I imagine this car is either long gone sold, or broken for spares now

One thing you all have to bear in mind on this one is that when someone applies for a log book though the DVLA a letter is sent to the original owner, in which time all they need to do is ringthe DVLA and say no thats still my car, then ownership isn't transfered.

So if GAZ applied for it properly then the owner should have recieved a letter and gotten plenty of time to sort it.

If they didn't, sorry, their loss, finders keeper. But what a find!!!

But Id query whether the DVLA even sent the letter. In fact I think he should have knocked on the houses that the car was near. A little detective work might have helped.

Oh and Finders Keepers. Hope he tells the 6'6" muscle bound murderer that when he comes to collect his car again

What about an HPI check?

Maybe the REAL original owner is a finance company.

Not being funny but who the fook are the dvla to just give a car away. It dont belong to the dvla so they have no right to give it away. Its like me selling my neighbours house cause they won the lottery and emigrated

Nice one Gaz...... ...I got a bmw 325i sport exactly the same way in 1992,put a new lockset in it,bunged on a cheap private plate and used it for 12 months, then sold it on....

Loads of stuff gets dumped in Liverpool, when the drug dealers think somethings come on top,if they can`t sell it quick they just park it up and forget about it.....

A friend of mine have just done this too. Although not a cossie but a car worth 12k. The previous owner had some big problems with tax fraud and had left the car so he traced down the owner and she couldn't be bothered so he got it for 140 squid

laughing at all the muppets saying it's not legal and fair.....he's gone through the correct procedure and the car is his. I'd bang it on another reg and jobs a good 'un.

Top marks to that man for a bit of initiative.

As for the owner coming back....he hasnt got a leg to stand on, also if he wanted it he wouldnt have abandoned a £15k car in the first place.........it's probably been used for something illiegal such as a getaway car or can lead the police to the owner for one reason or another so they've had to let it go.......
