Could not pay that much for transmission,

Rather has less power,or take the risk.

DPE gearbox with straight cut 2nd and 3rd gears. Lasted around 3 years of track abuse (Maybe more) from Jason the previous owner and I blew the standard input shaft up within 3000miles of driving (I put it in 3rd @ 90mph ) Got a new one rebuilt and the straight cut gears sounds the mutts

Got a few quick cars around atm Will be getting her setup shortly due to not running right, so she should be a bit quicker than before hopefully

Damo,
If it is making this power with the same turbo as Dave uses, then you "should" be okay (providing you are sensible), as the torque doesn't come in with such a bang as with a normal T34. If it is a standard T34, then about three goes of full boost in 3rd gear will see the teeth rattling round in the bottom of the box .

If you did break it, then you can get a standard replacement 'box for just over Ł500 and get it peened and polished, which would last with the same turbo as Dave is using (as your box is quite high mileage, and so may not be in peak condition to accept the torque this conversion would give).

Benn 304R,
would leave the standard stuff in tbh see how it goes.
Thats what I was planning to do... what I was trying to assertain was how long it would be before I would be taking it out again

Mike, I'm unsure on turbo yet ... MAY more than likely be a T34...

Re my current box, I have already blown the original box up this year... (3rd gear), so its already had a replacement box, though just another bog std one

My Oppliger close ratio long box is the making of my car. My engine lunched the box in less than 500 miles (it is the torque that is the killer) and now my car is MUCH quicker in real road use as the EFR is kept in the best part of its power band the whole time....or atleast it would be if MK Motorsport Mark Walker would ship my bits out!

fixit cr semi straight cut in mine with 4.4 diff (+drop gear) running efr 7163 at 36psi. noisy as hell in a kit car with no sound proofing. originally bought an oppliger from bara but it wouldnt fit cos they have an added section in the middle which makes the box too long

Basically the oppliger box was jumping out of 3rd gear straight away after mapping (only t4)anyhow took the box out and back to Bara and the jumping out of gear was poss a sycro ring issue then we looked at the gears and they had burred over the edge of the tooth then Bara was concerned at that time that there was maybe a issue with the quality of the kits and said maybe best not use one and offerd me the fix it kit which suited me as it was the fix it I wanted in the first place but weren't available then so ended as I wanted I have no issues with fix it good quality warranty on teeth too for a few years so as I say not quite to plan

How have you managed to break 4 boxes in a year? If you were using a standard box with over 500 bhp I could understand it but with your set up a standard box should cope well.
Expensive year then?

4x4 boxes are weak and only need a pull in 3rd gear to rip the teeth apart, your maybe mistaking him having a t5 box instead

You are right ,I was forgetting his is a 4x4 Saff not a 2wd but even so to break 4 gearboxes in just one year must be down to some serious abuse with his driving style. As I said bloody expensive as well!!
