my laguna V reg 2000 (older shape) 1.8 16v RT Sport has a very very bad squeal, Basically when started it squeals/squeaks, and it gets louder with driving, but decreases when braking, the noise comes from the auxillary belt,, the noises dies immediatly when talc or WD40 is put on the belt.

The belt doesnt cover all the "V"'s on the pullly and i am going to get another belt from renault to try this as imo it is deffo belt related, but the noise is so loud it is very very imbarrising drivng the car. I did spray some wd40 on the alternator just to make sure it wasnt one of the bearing in that that was fooked.

does anyone have any ideas please other than change the belt?

in saying that i had a squeek when i had me headgasket dont by a bunch of mates in college when i was 17, never sqeeked till the headgasket was done,,,,,,, turned out the tossers set the bottom end to TDC the timed the cam and bent a fooking valve

couldnbt argue either as they never charged me and they also suppied the headgasket

all sorted now cos i am clever plus i have now 2 very sore fingers and am very very dirty but at least all the squeaks have gone (i hope)

no squeak, but then the belt moved a notch and started squeaking again, just tried to do it again but now cant seem to get it right,
there are six notches on each pully, and 5 on 1, the belt covers 5 notches and the one nearest the engine should be exposed, but one pulley at the front is the one giving probs, so i am just gonna speak to renault now as it is obvious it is just a case of putting it on right as i did sort it for 30 mins or so til the belt slipped and i dont have no beers left
