So my 438bhp / 375lb ft guess wasn't far off . Not that I'm sad or anything and know what power an engine will make with certain hardware .

I can't wait to see thw whole car finished off, will be awesome (for pulling 14 year olds, as that is the only use it will see ) .

impressive,

but has the torque been mapped flat like that on prupose to limit it, or is that just how it is anyway and is just tree stump pulling flat hard accelleration allthe way up ?

Dave,
It is the nature of this turbo to produce the torque curve like this. A standard T3/4 is much more agressive in the way it comes in with a bang (normally 400lb ft at 3500rpm). However, not only is this horribly agressive and a killer for gearboxes in a 4x4, the standard T3/4 then tails off a lot more rapidly. This custom turbo, although it comes in less agressively (due to being bigger), it can hold onto the torque / power better. This allows the boost curve to be mapped nicely to give a lovely flat torque curve that will make it feel awesome in the car and make it feel like the power is still there all the way to the limiter, where on a normal T3/4 car, you get a huge mid-range wallop, followed by the feeling the power is tailing off at the top end.

As a comparison, so you can see what I mean, here is a power-plot for a standard T3/4.

ah see said the blind man!

cheers mike, so next question, which i think i know the answer to, you would not be able to to simply whack one of these ona t34 equipped car ans the boost/rpm point would not match up for the map and cause conditions for maximum smoke?

so it would have to be live mapped to get it to work properly...

so what turbo is it exactly, how much and where from ?

Daves car has been specced completely around the turbo and this is how you SHOULD do a car. So everything has been optimised for this turbo - cams and timing, head etc.

Speak to Harvey about the turbo, as he developed it on the engine dyno - 01733 576 614 / www.specialistcarservices.co.uk

Also, on the T35 engine (dyno plot above) look at the boost you have to run (to get "similar" power to Dave's T38)........The T35 needs 35 LBS/PSI

As I mentioned in my post , it is the characteristics of the turbo. The engine is actually more efficient than the turbo is at that rpm and is consuming more air than the turbo can give and so the boost tails off. The wastegate is actually fully closed from around 4-4.5k onwards.

zvhturbo, the boost spikes like that because its mapped to do that.

Would be interesting to see figures from a t34 running moderate boost so we could get an even more accurate comparison.

SPADGE,

I got a few bits of footage mate... i wasnt sad enough to set a video camera up in the dyno cell though

Mike Rainbird, you absolute lord but yes you were very close.. me and damo still reckon you grabbed the info from Harvey though

Dave Henshall,

Its a P8 mate, with A pectel board running the WHOLE show! amazing what it can do! Also a requst was to keep torque slightly lower to preserve the rest of the car

cheers all for the comments... i cant wait to get it in the car and then get it on the road

anyone selling a quaife big tooth 4x4 box???

Flat torque curve from 3500-6500, loving that

Seems to be running a little lean though, amazed its happy at those sort of AFR, would have expected it to be very low 12s not mid-high!
