Default Toyota Hilux - anyone own one?

wouldn't mind one of these badboys for arsing about at weekends and as a daily abuse wagon - topgear destroyed one and it still ran, even after taking an overnight swim in the sea

anyone got one or had any experience with them? mainly offroad and in big muddy fields

bulletproof ! seriously,

i bought 1 a few yeas backt for 100 quid that had been stood for 2 years with no battery on it and flat tyres, was gonna use it for launching my boat in abersoch, put a battery on it, turned over then ran, fookin marvelous, insurance wanted 700 quid to insure it 3rd party only at the time when i had a 4x4 saph and was paying less than that FC on that?!?! so it just made us laugh in the yard doing doughnuts , sold it for scrap for 50 quid

check this bad boy out ...

I had one .it was a 1887 E reg mk 2 hilux 2.2L petrol it was my first motor

Had chrome rims .roll bars etc... i blew the engine up twice in the 2yrs of owning it ... Good offroad ..shame they had manual locking front hubs...means when you want 4x4 you have to jump out and turn the dial on the front hubs..

Get ya bits from milner conversions if they are still going...? When i had mine 6yrs ago they had every part for it

I brought mine for £1600 and sold it for £2100

If i was to buy one again id get a mk3 hilux 2.4 Diesel they go on for ever

A diesel one will last forever ...I've had loads of them and had them well jacked up as well with 43's to baby 33' tyres. Done shackle, body lifts, extensions to the chassis and shortened/lengthed them as well. There prone to rust, but there a good old workhorse from standard or a bit of fun when you throw a bit of cash at them. I've also had a standard 1.8/ 2.2 to a Cossy lump in them as well (turbo'd as well as n/a)

Great motors but the leaf springs is a bit of a bummer but the newer ones are coiled at the front (typical uk sent shit, when the yanks had coils at the front, we had had leafs ... hence the bounce, but when empty they do skip on the rear end)

Buy it right and the old bus will last forever

g/f's parents have a black 3.0 diesel manual one. It is a combo cab so has front tilt seats to access the rear bench. The have a pickup bit with a canopy roof on the back and use it carry the dog around. They have had a fair amount of gearbox trouble with it so are converting to Nissan. They pick that up in about 3 weeks which is a 4.0 V6 petrol.
