I ain't no 'tosser' and have owned both. Believe me a tin hut ain't in the same league as an M3 and it looks way better turning up to pick up a chick in a beemer than a MK4 escort

It's funny that a lot of people seem to label bmw drivers tossers, I guess it comes from the rep thing? I'm pretty sure the hatred was spawned by other reps in mondeo's having to move out the way of a straight six on the motorway

I can honestly say I've never had so many filthy looks driving a car as when I had my M3

I love cars and enjoy seeing decent cars but people who have hatred for people driving certain cars are usually jealous loosers. When I see someone in a nice car I think 'ooh nice car' some people seem to think 'look at that c*nt' which roughly translates to 'I'd like a decent car but unless the dole office are handing them out I'll stick with my old shed and wait for the opportunity to open my door into your bodywork sometime'

I was jesting in response to a comment mate so don't take it personal. Anyways I'm virtually married now so have no interest in picking up chicks. The wife would kill me

As for looks we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one

what people are forgetting is something like the M3 Evo has 321bhp as standard

Where the cossies only have 200/220ish as standard

so as a standard car out the factory the m3's are tremendous

Still prefer cossies though

And before anybody mentions it I'm well aware of the "boy racer" image of my RST but I'd rather be labelled a boy racer than tosser.

Just my thoughts so please don't anybody take offence as that's not my intention. I was asked so I answered
No offence taken everyone is entitled to their opinion

Did you know the 3 series BMW outsells even the Mondeo

Personally I don't think BMW drivers are tossers either, think they are people with fine taste in cars

Sorry Steve - I wholeheartedly share Lee's opinions on this.

I used to do the whole BMWs are for wankers, Boxsters are for hairdressers etc etc thing too, but funnily enough, I'd never driven them.

Now that I've driven these cars, I have had to eat humble pie 50 times over. In fact, one of the best drives I've ever had was in a 318iS down a country lane. Just kept it on the boil and it was awesome fun! Parked it up in town, and actually had pride getting out the car, as opposed to embarassment had I been parking an 80s boy racer Ford in a city car park.

My eyes are well and truly open - loyalty to a particular marque means you can be sooooo blinkered to the benefits of others. Just remember, you've got to see it from the other side - BMW drivers probably think that your car is just driven by some chavved up tosser (although we know that's partly untrue ), but they don't know that might not be the case.

Let's be honest though - who looks more the tosser - the guy tearing round the ring road is his modded RST, or the guy driving his "drivers car" M3? The beemer has the rep because of a lot of misguided nonsense, whereas the RST probably acquires the reputation as a lot of people who drive them are complete wankers!

thanks for the replies guys

not certain that i'm getting rid of the cos - depends if i fall in love with again after a trip to msd.

but i have had it a while now...

dumb question time - i know NOTHING about bm's.

3 models to choose from. 3.0 3.2 and 3.2 evo - is that right?

anybodyknow bhp or 0-60times on these.

so then the 3.0 is almost as good as the evo (is the evo the one up from the 3.2?)

the 3.0 is 5 speed and 3.2 & 3.2 evo are 6 speed?

i take it nearly all have leather & aircon?

what about traction control? do they all have it?

cheers dudes!

3.0 and 3.2 Evo mate. Just 2 models... with either coupe or Saloon body shells

and stop asking about 0-60 times... you aren't a 17 year old buying a Nova!

just wondered how much difference there was between them!

doesn't sound like much - but less to go wrong on the 3.0

and traction control?

Rob, i have both a stage 3 3dr and a m3 evo, with optional alloy doors and mag wheels to save weight,it,s the best car i have ever driven out of the box, does 27 mpg,is reliable doesnt use oil or head gaskets ,it,s that good that if i had bought it before i had ever had a cossie there wouldnt be a cossie in my garage know, and no they dont have traction control but are a lot more controlable than a cossie

27mpg sounds good.

Spot on. A grown man (ie say, 24+) getting out of a S2 RST is a bit of A show up these days IMO, but a decent M3 or sommat is a car you can be proud of.

BTW I know 3 people with E36 M3's, a 2door M3, a 4door M3, and a 2door M3EVO, and they all lovely cars, but a silver 2door M3EVO with full black leather does it for me.
Such a quality all round car, looks good, handles good, posh, quick, everything really.

To be fair to Oranoco, he isn't saying the M3's are bad cars at all. He totally realises how good they are just he has this issue that they have a bad image... I do still find that weird from an RST owner!!

BUT he did explain he would rather be thought of as a Boyracer than a Tosser.... which is VERY weird if you ask me!

I don't care really what people think, I'd just rather drive a nice modern fast and classy car than a nasty old money pit shed

I own both a E30 325Is Mtech which is on an f plate and an E46 328ci se which is on a V plate.

The E30 is used for track, and playing with. Is completely stripped out awaiting cage, new suspension and a set of decent brakes....

The E46 is the day to day car. Has full beige leather, 17" wheels, BMW Areo kit, all the buttons from the latest space ship....Infact for the money i payed i dont hink i could have found anything better...

And belive it or not i used to have the same attitude...."Wanky Beemer drivers" But i realised they dont fly out the factory for no reason. So i decided to road test one, FOOK how wrong was i, bought two as soon as i could.

And since then i wont judge anything till i have had ago in it....

Cheers Porkie.

Something that i only just realised tho.

I used to live in Peterborough and used to spend time in Harveys. I couldnt get it in to my head why if he could make a cossie go so fast was he driving around in a Porsche turbo.........

Now i know.

Maybe its a natural progression, kinda like waking up from a long sleep. You get a RS, make friends with other RS owners, Talk on a predominatly RS forum, Go to RS Show through the year....Maybe you just become so strangled by the whole RS scene you get comfortable and see everything outside it as inferior and so never want to try different things....

Or i culd be talking aload of shite and need to get on with the flooring in my bathroom which is why i took the day off....

I just want to point out that I have actually owned a BMW albeit briefly. I just didn't get on with it. I own an Audi at the moment which is a great car but I find it boring and it's being sold to fund a second RST.

As I said I'm not saying they are bad cars as they are not. They are very good cars which I said from my first pst on the matter.

Itsmeagain: Ford Blinkers have nothing to do with it. It's just my personal preference and thoughts which I like anybody else is intitled to. I buy a car for myself and I'm happy with my choice. I could have a Cossie, M3 or Impreza tomorrow if I so chose but I'm more than happy with what I have.

If people that have the M3 are happy then good on them. What one person loves another hates. That's just life

I don't know but that is the image be it deserved or not. I found other motorists a lot more hostile towards me in the BMW than in any other car I've had before or since.

Had a passenger lap round the ring in may in a 2 year old one and was really impressed by the car.

My saph was slightly quicker in a straight line when we had a quick blast up some german road.
