Have your wits about you and pay attention to what's going on around you and you can't go far wrong.
I had a riot in a Suzuki Vitara in Crete. Rachel wasn't impressed when I proceeded to donut it in a gravel car park though
The police carry guns so don't go upsetting them

I bet you bang your hand on the door panel going for a gearstick that just isn't there
Takes a bit of getting used to, but if you can drive well over here, you'll be fine.

And that desire to drive on the wrong side of the road
I had to be real carefull when we came back from America last week - after no sleep for around 24hours I was wasted, and really had to concentrate.

I was under the impression you had to be over 25 to drive abroad? I know ive never been able to get a hire car until my 25th birthday.
Its ok driving in Spain, the motorways are easy once you get used to the layout, once off the motorway be careful of the kerb on your right hand side, basically there isnt usually one and its more often than not a steep drop off the edge of the tarmac onto desert land........... this can damage your wheels quite severley... so my Dad found out

18 is the minimum legal age in Spain but few if any hire companies will give you a car till you are over 21.
Lots of useful info here
http://driving.drive-alive.co.uk/driving-in-spain.htm
including speed limits, drink drive rules etc. Note the need for a hi-vis vest in case you break down - we didn't get that in our hire-car in April. Mind you, we never had spare bulbs or a warning triangle either - probably the hire companies worry that we will steal them!
