Yes, but what no one seems to have worked out, is that if we have black boxes for road charging, they'll also be issuing speeding fines automatically, as they'll know when and where the speed limit is being broken.....

"Mr Darling told the BBC that charging, which would replace road tax and fuel duty, could cut congestion and prove cheaper for half of all motorists."
yeah right, I'll eat my hat when the government actually cuts motoring costs and taxes...
It might be cheaper for half, but will probably be a lot more expensive for others.
Stopping road tax and insurance evasion is easy - stick the road tax on fuel, job done, can't drive without fuel.

exactly, hence the "limit our cars to 70mph now", cos we're not going to be able to go over it without being given 3 points and £60 fines

And "The government would not aim to raise cash from road-charging, and could match the money gathered with reductions in fuel duty or the cost of the tax disc, Mr Darling has suggested."
so where does anyone save money then ??? Money lost in duty on fuel and road tax would be recovered fully through this new system...
And reducing congestion, how, by driving people out of their cars, no payment scheme will actually improve congestion, except maybe on the expensive M25 because everyone is taking the 2p/mile side roads instead. Spread the congestion more like...

So how will it work for track days? As GPS systems are only accurate to within about 10-20m or so (which can change if the US military decide to "move" things slightly every now and again, which they sometimes do) and the main straight of Snetterton runs parrallel to the A11 only a relatively short distance away .
I can imagine getting banned for continuously driving down the "A11" repeatedly at 150mph .

I hate this f,ing country talk about big brother watching you
I cant see how it will benifit any one other than the goverment
At least when you have paid for your road tax it's paid and you can only go
as far as the fuel that you have paid for will allow! I bet it will be like having
a mobile phone getting that shock bill thinking i never used it that much did i

ok - so they are saying it will cut congestion and get people onto public transport.
what about us who WORK in the public transport industry - if we are priced out of our cars by darling and ladyman (fooking rite pair they are ) then we will not be able to get to work and public transport will not run - quite simple total gridlock - they've really gone and flocked themselves this time if they introduce it

think about it, motorists save case under the scheme, the petrol tax IS the same sceme, the congestion charge is the same sceme, resident parking IS the same sceme
by doing all them PROVES it fails and all it does is makes people pay more money !!!
no matter whatya do to the motorist they WILL always pay and thats why they do it, notice that they improved the london transport system by making congestion charging and then STILL RAISED the buss fares, when it was introduced the fares where zone1 was 1.00 and surounding zones where .70p, then they introduced the 1 zone london
but what they actually done was raise all the fucking fares to 1.00 ,how does that benifit anyone
then the following year they raise all fares in london to 1.20 as they need to pay for the extra services they have now got in place, thought that was the congestion charge was gonna fund
did you also know that the congestion charge target was to reduce congestion by 5% !!!!!!
did you also know that it never made as much money as first thought !!!!,
did yu also know that the first week of the congestion charge there was nothing but black cabs and they was causing traffic
think a motorcycle is the only way forwards now , they wont charge for them as there too small to cause congestion
i love the way they also blame the enviroment aswell, notice that busses are the dirtiest vehicle available and stink the fucking road out, whe iwas taking bits off the cossie engine a bus FULL of passengers was choking me
there is NO good to this and there servey dont count for shit as there more than 1000 people in the country, thats not even 1% they asked

It is a crazy idea... I read an article and they will charge high rates for peak times and conjested roads... so it will make going to work in a city everyday a non-viable option... if you do 15000 miles a year say 50 a day round trip to work and you get charged an average of 50p because you go at 8.00am into a city... That makes your tax bill £7500... hmmm... Hey, but your petrol may be 10p a litre cheaper...
So unless we get paid a lot more (how?? businesses will be facing higher overheads), everybody works flexi-hours (impossible due to opening hours), we have a fantastic Public Transport system (will not happen... ever) - this will not work...Until teleports are invented.
At the end of the day, the government will not spend all those millions (probably billions) on a new system if it will achieve less revenue...
What do you reckon??

i think they should offer the unemployed people to relocate and then knock the house down and then ya save congestion as parts of the country are congested with people not just fooking cars
houses are smaller and then ya get people having to share houses that makes it even more crowded
knock down high rise tower blocks as 1000 people living in the space of 13 people dont help matters when there all gonna want a car to drive to get about
theres all this greenbelt land doing nothing, and i mean fields on motorways ect, build more towns there and then people relocate and the problem reduces
we have a little venice and china town, why on little cosevo out in the highlands, build em a village and then get a big digger and cut a moat around it so there cant get back here, just dont give em boats ect and deffo not trains to migrate over with again

Well I've hated this govt. since they got in for their tax on the motorist. Why do they tax us? Because we're an easy target as there's no alternative for us! Why not catch criminals/improve network infrastructure? Because it costs money and it's easy to tax an easy honest target thean to get off their arses and do something about it!
I'm just going to become a crim, not pay any insurance/tax or anything...you get off much more lightly in the long run.
You should direct your anger at the 40% of fc ukers who didn't think it was worth voting against these usle$$ t0$$ers. Conservatives have their bad points but they would never have done what labour are doing.
We'll be expected to cycle hundreds of miles to work next...or then get taxed more if you are a company car driver etc etc.
JOKE!!!

Just said the prices ranged from 2p per mile on some roads to £1.34 on some motorways More details are planned for release soon.
Don't these dicks realise that the motorways will end up deserted as people clear off on to quieter roads. And although they say from 2p per mile you can bet your wedding tackle that will be a very small minority of roads If we don't stand up now and voice ourselves Phoney Tony is going to walk over all of us
This whole thing just stinks to high heaven.

well I'm obviously not one of the few that will benefit from this..... I travel about 700 miles a week to/from work at approx 48mpg.
Thats 36400 miles a year which at present costs me about £3k in fuel (including road tax)
Assuming 75% of the price of fuel is Tax and this would be removed along with road tax if they bring this mileage charge in instead my fuel cost per year goes down to just over £700 a year...cool!
BUT!! due to doing nearly 37k miles a year I would pay somewhere between £10k (if the average charge per mile was 25p) and £19k if the average charge was 50p per mile.
so my annual travel bill would go up from £3k to at least £11k or even past £20k!
I would get the train to work but that'd take 2.5hours each way and I'd have to change 3 times....no point in even thinking about a coach and theres no way I'm cycling 150 miles a day!
They can get Fucked!
