A Quick IT Geek Q... AD and DNS
quick Q... does an AD Domain controller have to have DNS running?
also is there a way to manually kick off a DNS replication to a machine? and for that matter, where do you actually set up the DNS replications? as i gotta change mine as i moved 3 DNS servers to a different subnet so had to change their IPs

an AD name should have full reverse DNS setup... but saying that it is possible to get it to work without.
what servers are you running the DNS setup on? really you should be looking for off-site DNS replication so if your primary site goes down it is still possible to do lookups!

weve got about a million and 1 DNS servers... some 2K some NT4 theres enough resiliance there (altho our PRIMARY server is running on an old vigilen desktop pentium 133 PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )
it was just that we got an AD server turn up today (which we slapped next to one of our other AD servers... such a pointless excercise plugging it in really ) which we slapped in, but i noticed it was running a DNS server on it... i wondered if the AD DCs needed to have DNS running or if i can turn it off
