my sister has been in her council supplied flat for a few yrs, she was going to buy but now shes just got herself a private rented house, now personally think she should just give the flat back to council for some other needing family but her freind mentiond she can actually sell her right to buy on the place???

and that she would prob be offered a few grand, so ya know what women are like, i kinda see her point as would pay for new house decoration etc

she just phoned me and asked to look on internet but i cant find nothing all bout it


anyone kniow anything about this or who she can call to enquire??

As when i bought mine the terms of right to buy where
1. I had to be living in it to entitle me to buy it
2. Once i had bought if i sold it within 3 years i had to pay the council a percentage of the profits back

its not a good thing and she will be responsible for the money should the council find out

besides right to buy now aint worth a toss as ya only get 30% off now, we got our place direct off the council with no discount as we needed a place to live and we never qualified for coucil propertie and could not get a half rent half buy morgage either so we had a deal done via a member of family

Not true i'm afraid, if she has bought it then you pay something like 40% back to the council if sold within usually 3 years, there is no legal way to transfer the right to buy, if she moves on then the council put some new tenants in and they have the decision on when to offer the new tenants the right to buy

the council used to give you money if you gave back the house,and went into private accommodation,not sure if they still do as labour stopped a lot of these .
