the point is as soon as the gas runs out it's a slower car. The other mods are permanent.

I think for the record side of things it don't matter, however, I would be more impressed with a car that did 205 with no gas that 208 with it... IMO

On the cage side of things, it's totally up to rod/mark. I wouldn't feel safe doing those speed even if I had a cage

Out of interest how much would a decent cage slow you down?

I am going to find myself a totally standard cossie and set a top speed with it, then disregard any other recrod attempt if the car's been modified in the slightest, I mean, bigger turbos, gas flowing heads, etc... that's cheating isn't it.

Rod, how's the lag on the new turbo ?

To me race fuel is cheating far more than nitrous is as i run nitrous daily on the road on some of my cars but i cant afford to run any of them on 40 quid a gallon fuel day in day out.

With nitrous you can spool a GT42 by 3000rpm on a 1600 engine if you want to!

Rod wont be having any issues spooling up!

How do you feel about race fuel then, as to me thats far more of a cheat on a road car as no one ever runs around with race fuel permentantly filling their tank in their road car just in case they want the power but lots of people roll round with a full tank of nitrous, i do myself for example.

Rod is only using a very moderate amount of nitrous, an 11lb bottle will last a good few minutes of full throttle from one bottle, i believe his car will do 100mp from a stand still in under 7 seconds now probably, so thats a good 30 races on the road using nitrous from 0-100 (on a autobahn of course, lol)
I cant see rod finding 3 cars in a years normal driving that he cant beat without the nitrous let alone more than 30, so i dont think it will be an issue to him!

Rods car has so much power now that the only safe place to use the nitrous really is somewhere like brunters, so its not really an issue with running out as he always goes to brunters with a full bottle anyway.

If you have a car that needs diesel or petrol you make sure you have enough for what you are using it for, same with water injection or nitrous.

And unlike petrol or diesel, at least those of us serious about nitrous can refill it at home without having the inconvenience of having to pop to a petrol station like you have to with fuel.

I have Three choices of Power

Pump Fuel circa 660bhp
Race Fuel circa 700bhp
Nitrous circa 800+bhp
We now Know we had around 680bhp on the 200mph run so its stupidly fast on Pump Fuel & i will probably never use gas on the road, but its there if I need it & the bottle can be opened from in the car ( dont tell chip ).
I have an "on gas" timer in the car so running out is unlikely.
The opposition wont be calling gas cheating at totb, cos they like me are there to win.

EXACTLY!

If its not excluded by the rules then its NOT CHEATING!

Simple as that!

All the people arguing against it are just doing so cause its not what they are choosing to do themselves, would be like me competing against Rod in my 3door and then calling him a cheat for not having a big whale tail on the back slowing him down.

race fuel is defo cheating big time, nitrous is classed as cheating by people who think its fuel like race fuel, are turbo chargers cheating as there pusing more air in the engine than the atmosphere allows

also gettign a trailor to and from the event is cheating as its not a road car then ( ok if ya blow the engine up then getting it towed home aint cheating )

For me personally, I would say ANYTHING that makes the car fast is allowed.
As long as its still got a Ford engine in it anything goes.

Please lets remember ROD at the moment is our best weapon against the jap infestation.

Lets stop bitching and let him get on with it and wish him the best.

as I said I have nothing against it. Do what is necessary to get the record. Just I personally would be much more impressed with something making it without nitrous. Don't get my wrong as far as records go, do what you have to! It is just another mod.

to be technically correct, it is actually an oxygen booster or an AIR supliment

however as far as my statement goes, alcohol fuel is an oxygen rich fuel i.e its like normal gasoline and nitrous oxide mix....so

as i said earlier
i couldn't give a toss whether it runs on race fuel, alcohol or nitrous, rods car in my eyes is the fastest cossie i have ever had the pleasure of reading/hearing about

and long may it reign

good luck with the next top speed runs

Chip i am talking purely in road form (no nos),with the assumed low comp and fuck off big turbo i bet its grand..LOL...not a diss towards MAD obviously as i am semi in there camp..lol..just being realistic as its a road car aint it?

As for a cage, unless your in proper head surround buckets and wearing crash helmets i beleive the cage could be more deadly with than without!Lets be hobest also unless you really cage it up ala Reylands Escos you aint gonna survive a 200mph crash anyway!...Remember i cage is primaraly for if you roll itnot hitting a brick wall etc!

Indeed - there aren't that many people that want to throw huge amounts of money on an old sierra.

the turbo / manifold could also be supported from underneath

personally, i would rather use a lhd shell or alternative brake master cylinder arrangement - i would not like the heat from an exhaust passing 800 bhp worth of exhaust gas to be that close to my plastic reservoir at 200 mph (even with the heat wrap and shield). but, you're an engineer and know what you're doing, so if you think it's safe, that's your decision (same as all this talk of roll cage etc)

i'm looking forward to hearing your acheivements in the coming months before retirement (if you can leave it all alone?)

Vince at Universal Turbos can supply a special plate that bolts on to a GT35 and picks up on the RS500 or SpecR damper bracket.....
