Default What is the black coating on Ford Standard coolers????

What is the black stuff used to coat All the BEHR (sp?) Alloy intercoolers??

You know like on my Interchargecooler thing or a normal 2 or 4WD cooler, it aint powdercoating is it?? certainly not anodised...

What benefit does it have??

Cheers

Black conducts the heat better and also makes it invisible to radar detection Thought it was just black paint?

Just black rad paint isn't it?

Black disspates heat via radiation better than a silver one for example.

IF it is just black rad paint, where can I get some from and does it stick well ???

Hang on FFS! Black intercooler is bad because it absorbs more heat from the outside, but an intercooler has enough to worry about 'cos of the heat from the inside! So an good intercooler must be silver or white I guess. Black is not desirable, though the difference it makes is probably 0.1% or thereabouts

Wrong im afraid lol. Black of coures absorbs radiation - which is why it is black. BUT, when the item in question is at a hotter temperature, black will shed it's heat quicker. If you want something not to absorb heat, then it should be silver.

Black is better for heat transfer, both into and out of, so radiators should be black to work best.

Powdercoating is actually really thin!

Pace do a thing called Thermal Dispersant coating on the rad's if you ask, I'm not too sure if this a layer of some kind of black coating or not though, phone them and see.
