that you have a play in your Escort Cossie steering rack...?
I know about the usual tests regarding steering wheel response etc etc, but i'm not sure whether my steering when cornering being not precise (kinda "floating") is due to my crap tyres or to a play in my steering rack.
Tracking is perfect and has been checked, so it's not this.

The only test I know is the one they use when they do an MOT over here, basicly with the wheels in the air you use the stearing wheel to move the wheels side to side while someone holds the road wheel and checks for any extra movement or knocking.

Might be the bottom arm, track rod end or an anti roll bar bush
