Default Mouse cursor in Windows XP

Does anyone know why the mouse cursor changes colour from white to a rainbow effect for a split second every so often ?

Is it showing CPU activity ?

Thanks

sounds like it is either pausing or not responding, has it always done that, have you done any house keeping on your PC recently?

I have been using XP both home and pro for about 18 months and I have never seen that happen, have you checked the mouse settings in control panel?

the rainbow cursor only exists when the "animated cursors" are selected in the mouse options. Standard cursors don't show this rainbow effect. Concerning when it happens, it's chaotic. It has nothing to do with CPU charge or the machine pausing or not, it's just happening from time to time.
