Okay, now I'm well confused. Someone explain this to me..... Why is it reverse threaded? Is this to stop it destroying itself in some techinical way?

IIRC maram 247 is a the 'trade name' of a metal alloy, as is Inconel which is also used for some turbo applications. This is due to heat resistance and strength properties. The shaft is left hand threaded to stop the compressor nut undoing if the turbo stalls.
