Default Car overheating?

i hold my hands up that im not very techinical with cars, but u learn as u go along... when i sit in traffic or slow moving traffic the fan goes kicks in really loudly and the water temp goes up loads... i just wondered why cos it cant be a good thing? :s

i realise that this is probably a really simple thing, so i do appologise!

Could be the actual sender or the gauge inside the car being broke...

My car temps were going through the roof when even cruising on the motorway.

When sat in traffic it is normal for the temps to rise, but as you know the fans SHOULD be bringing it down.

Theres no gunk in the water etc? Water pump miught not be working?
