Degrees?

Degrees?
Just had a moment of interest, and decided to question you all about degrees you have, or are studying for? Think it'd be quite interesting to hear about them!

BSc Mathematics, from the Uni of Liverpool (graduated Summer 2000)...
Superb time while I was there, except for the final year which was a REAL 24/7 slog......got there in the end, if I could go back and choose whether to do it again, I would despite the massive amounts of work required.
What I will say, however, is that unless you do a vocational degree or end up with a First from a proper red-brick Uni, finding a job afterwards isn't the easiest of things to do...

To be honest I'm not looking for something that's going to give me a tunnel into a specific job afterwards, I just revel in the challenge. I'm extremely sad in that respect I suppose!
Thank you for the reply mate, it's very enlightening to read about other peoples experience with various courses.

Bsc (Hons) Business Information Systems Management from Bournemouth Uni.
Graduated last November. Really good course and covered a wide spectrum of subjects from Accounting and Marketing through to Programming and Management.
Great location next to the beach and clubs as well

1 year left for my Bachelor in Computer Science & Software Engineering but with the current lack of job I will probably continue to get a masters in Geographic Information Technology.

Bsc Computer Science with hons
Just about to complete my final year in striaght Computer Science now at kingston uni, all i can say is if you want a challenge then look no further, this is a killer degree, IS (Information Systems) is not the same as CS as the CS course is much more stressful and the work load in the final year is double the amount. The modules contained in CS vary from uni to uni and so do some of the programming languages taught.
I wouldn't do it again BUT, so glad i have and going to see it through to the end as personally for it is a SERIOUS achievement and plus i didnt take the easy option and change my degree to IS after the first year !

forensics sounds very interesting a girl that i worked with last year was going into her 2nd year in this, she used to tell me loads of stuff about what she was taught, interesting facts, it sounded very interesting and also there was loads of practicles involved so it wasn't all boring book reading shit.
if i had the financial backing i would have done somthing in biology as i would love to have a full time job which makes a difference plus i'm interested in things in that area, i went for IT as it is a sure thing financially for me as theres good well paid jobs in IT.
good luck with whatever you chose!

about to graduate with Bsc finance & accounting, finish the course in 27 days time!
biggest shock to me when i got to uni is that you do all sorts of subjects! im good at maths so thought id be good at this - when i started it was a bit of a shock to find out i had to pass IT, economics, law, business studies, tax, auditing, etc. all of which i had absolutely no knowledge on before the first day!
still passed them tho!
ditto others in that im proud to have got through it and definitely wouldnt consider doing anything like this again in the future!

I'm currently finalizing my doctoral dissertation on laser physics. I wouldn't recommend research for anyone
I'm out of the university faster than the speed of light after I'm done with the degree. I'll go and rather work as a car mechanic than stay here with this stupid salary.

BSC Hons Economics with Accounting & Finance......
Double degree such as this is good, no dissertation
However I did have 36 exams and 12 pieces of assesed coursework
Well worth it, final year was hard.....especially doing my exams and revision with a shattered collarbone and two cracked ribs

Not a degree as such but I'm in my final year of CIPFA got exams in June and then one more in December then I'm free from studying forever (and then I'll be classed as one of those really boring accountant types)
Already qualified AAT (Accounting Technician), did my BTEC in business and finance and some other stuff. Not bad for being a total rebel at school, and my teachers said I'd never amount to much!!

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I have a BSc in Economics & Statistics (Joint Honours)
It took me over a year to find a "proper" job after I graduated, and the job I have now is not directly related to my degree. But I am still hunting for a job that I want to pursue a career in.

BSc was dead easy and did very little work but MSc was VERY hard. That was the hardest 12 months of study I have ever done. Probably not the answer you wanted to hear but it might be different for other MSc courses.
(Not using either of the qualifications in my job though. Doh.)

BSc (Hons) Industrial Information Technology & Software Engineering
Course was OK, and I had a good time doing it, but nothing I learnt there is relevant to what I do now.
Sean..

BA (Hons) Geography.... What a laugh, went on a field trip to Tenerife, unfortunately, as previously stated, was very difficult getting a relevant job so....
PGCE (Post grad teaching qual.) Geog.... Not so much of a laugh but still got to go on a weeks field trip to devon etc... Unfortunately, secondary schools are a nightmare so...
MA Property development & Construction - I am a Surveyor, it is great and good pay/options.... (Rhys - It is no harder than the 3rd year of a degree)

I wouldn't do the fourth year again it was hell Maybe thats not what you want to hear
The BEng part was a right laugh but most my mates left after that. The remainder of us had to do a group project which lasted the year and was huge

I have to admit that i did my masters 3 years after finishing my degree and after doing teaching so it seemed no harder than my last year of degree... I was also sponsored thru my masters so worked a lot harder!!!
Seems like the consensus is that a masters is V.hard.... But remember, mine was an MA so not as technical as Meng or Msc i shouldnt think... If i had done a masters straight after my degree, it probably would have been a 'mare as i swore that i would never do another dissertation after my first but have ended up doing a 2nd!!!

Doh!
Though im getting on now (24) and have another two years to finish my course as its 4 yrs. But i think if i get a good mark in the final year i will go on to do masters as i cant really afford to wait around. Though all depends on what grade i get, how i feel at the time and money then.

However, I did 2 years plus the placement, but the company gave me a good job so I never went back for the final year. I think I'll be OK, as I have had a good lot of experience of Management (so, pretty much the complete opposite from an Engineer then )
