Default DV Editing Software

I have recently purchased a Sony mini dv cam corder and have some footgae I want to bring on to the PC. I have got a fire wire card and cable and all seems to be working. I can import the footage to the PC with the standard picture package software that came with the cam corder however it seems pretty "basic" and I want to be able to change quality and frames etc etc.

What do you lot use for video editing?

Any recommendations of software packages, free preferably

I have studio9 av/dv and it's pretty simple to use. Have you updated it to 9.4 via their site and if so is it now playing up when you try to change codecs and other menu type stuff?

What type of videos do I need to be creating? If I create AVI's in DV mode a 40 second clip is like 130MB! but is quality as per the film.

If I create a MPEG (still is about 28MEG ) the quality is shite

I know there are a few people who create vids of their cars etc on here, so what format do you use?

Cheers

Adam.

i just use the built in stuff... keep it simple and dont adjust it .. have got a few in the vids section
there is a web tab that gives various different sizes/quality .
i normally just use it to transfer to dvd or the web
