New car nightmare....... WHY OH WHY?!?!?!
Last time I buy a car off ebay.
Thought I would be ok with a 1994 Escort 1800 LX (with bodykit!) for
£850. Knew it wouldn't be mint but still.....
Drove back to Hudds from Stoke with it at 11pm night. Topped up the oil and power steering fluid yesterday, and went out in it. Was moving to the left ever so slightly when I had my foot down but put it down to tracking needing sorted.
But the car is not up to the description of it. It looked great in the pics too. The Cossie front bumper is an MC Rallying fibreglass effort that's cracked at the bottom and not very tidy. It's too low down to clear speed bumps properly..... One of the front wings has a badly fitting indicator and upon closer inspection I could just tell that the wing wasn't properly sprayed, pointing to an accident repair.
Called at a garage my mate and his family have all their cars done at. I asked about getting it back on standard springs to raise the height a bit to clear the bumps etc and he looked the car over. Found a power steering fluid leak which he said could mean having my steering rack replaced and the fron springs are bust. This car came MOT'd til March '06 and I'm now wondering if the MOT is bent.
If I do pay out for it fixed I'm in two minds over whether to tone it down to standard RS2000 styling plus a Cossie lower boot spoiler and take off the Cossie bumper and ST24 rear bumper, as well as the WRC wing or just get a new Cossie front bumper from somewhere and stick with the kit. If only RS2k bits weren't so hard to find tho......
Would also like to get the quad headlights off and put standard RS2k lights and indicators on. But obviously my main concern is the mechanical side of things....
The guy at the garage seems a sound bloke and he said leave it with him and he'll put it thru an MOT at cost for me and let me know what's what with it. I should find out this morning. I'm dreading the call to be honest. I can't believe I've been done like this. All I wanted was a decent enough car with a little grunt that was mechanically sound, but I get this. I'm not in a good place financially and repairs are gonna mean borrowing more cash off my mum which is really something I'd rather not do.
Very down in the dumps about the whole thing.

No Martyn, I only went for it at the last minute and as it was so far away it wasn't possible. I guess I just shouldn't trust people.

Well if it really doesnt match the description given in the auction then get back to the seller and demand a refund!
Did you not have a good look before handing over the cash?
Could of told him there and then that it didnt match the description. Even if he left you bad feedback for it you would still have the cash in your pocket

Well I've had a call back. Seems it needs 2 new front springs, power steering rack and a new oil pressure switch. I'm looking at £310 for that. Other than that it's sound according to the mechanic. I'm just gonna get it fixed and stick with it.

Gonna tone it down and put RS2000 bumpers and lights on it. It's too chavved up at present for me. Only thing is, I can't decide whether to use the standard spoiler or the Cossie lower boot spoiler with it.

Re the repairs - without looking it up, I would have thought about 200 quid at the most in parts - can you fit the stuff, or know someone who can?
Might save a few quid?
