Default why has the esrt lasted so long??

HI ALL, JUST trying to find out why the esrt has such a following. when you think about it the astra gte,s were a good car but were r thay all now , and the cvh is well the grandad of all old engines but you can still pick up a new mag and see a cvh thats faster than many cossys my own erst has got to the stage when im not to sure what to do any more meaning its rotting away and needs massive money to get it nice, but thers nothing out ther thats comes close to my erst,
and it still out perfoms brand new so callard hot hatches, i love them to bits but dont no how long this car with its grandad engine 8valve can go on for

i know the feeling mate. i'm seriously loving mine at the moment even with its hiccups...but then i can appreciate em as its 15 years old so it aint perfect.

i'm currently debating wether or not to splash a whole lot of wedge on mine....oh decision's, decisions

lol sounds like we'reall in the same position

There's not so many astras about cos the engine was the only decent bit they made

The rest of the car just rotted away around it.

Like the Fiat Uno Turbos, they rocked but where are they now

work out how much you will have to spend getting it right ,and think how good it WILL be
then when you have worked out what it will cost, see what you could buy for the same money
same dilema with the cossie but i have decided i would rather spend 4k or so to sort it all out, as i cant think of anything else i would want .

ersts and cossies are pices of history mate

There are big followings for other cars but it is just something about fords that appeals to me.

Personally i love the S1, had one and miss it. Ford seem to get it right, Recaro seats feel a million times better than any seats out there, especially french cars!!

I think part of it is that when ford do an RST or Cossy it looks so different from the original bog standard car looks andperformance.

My mechanics says if he chopped my arm off you'd see the ford logo like a stick of rock

cheap parts, and easy diy to the cvh engine is partly why, power from a 1.6 unit is good really!

If I came back to the UK I'd get another RS Turbo. Affordable, fast as hell, easy to work on. It doesnt have many down sides and there is an awful lot of scope to upgrade. Classic motor.

I think the've been around for a long time due to a lot of reasons,

- Firstly the styling is right, it still looks cool even too this day! Look at similar cars from that generation and they look altra sheddy e.g. Caviliers, (especially the cab version ) (with the exception of the 205 GTi, MK1 Astra GTE, MK1 MK2 Golf GTi, but then these have the same kind of cult following!!! )
- The car overal was a good basic package, i.e. looked great, cool interior with recardos etc. with plenty of more speed potential from a turbo'ed engine!
-The turbo engine, need with say more, easy to get more power out of....
-Tuning potential - RST are still quick to this day compared with quite a lot of modern stuff, because they aren't wieghed down with a mountain of safety stuff like side impact bars, air bags etc etc. So 190bhp in your RST is gonna take some beating by modern machinery wieghing probably about a 1/3rd more......although you wouldn't want to crash a rst lol ........
-Cheap bits with massive availability, they are plenty of spares out there and DIY with the Escort isn't impossible.
- I just think there is something about them still, you drive to work and look at a million different boxes on wheels not really taking much notice, then you see a clean RST trundle by, and you think, wow, cool!

I hope the RST with live on like the MK1 and MK2 old Skool Escorts in the future, I can't see why they wouldn't (fingers crossed).

wtf kind of comment is that, now if ya live at home with ya parents thats even more of a twaty comment too

serious mate ive been on council ghettos all me live and trust me the peeps there are alot better than most kids in detached houses who are too scared to get a takeaway after 9pm incase they get there pocket money jacked again or there car will be smashed up.nicked ect as they aint gotthe bollocks to relate to the people they look down on

sorry mate but seen sooooooo many rich kids that think they made it when there in there bedroom and mum brings the cola to em in there roomm and think cause they can come home at 11am there independant

unless ya a former chav from a council estate or have are able to park ya car there adn not ever get it broken into then i dont think ya have the right to comment

i live in a rough part of town and i park my cossie on the road and use it once a month yet its never been keyed, broken into and i even get the scummy chavs keeping a eye on me car for me

there not all that bad mate !!!!

maybe just cause ya scared of em ya feel ya can cunt em off over the net

park up and say the same comment to a chav on a council estate then get a cab ( or phone ya mum to pick ya up again ) to report ya car nicked then find it burnt out in the garages and listen to ya tunes being played from the kids mates cars all round the manor

i really hate the whole talking down about ghetto places when people dont know anything about em

I see the word DIY has come into it a lot ..............this is the reason why there are dogs for sale

just cause something is cheap to buy dont mean its cheap to run!!

the amount i went to see that have been DIY'd was shocking and the quality of the work was even more shocking

rs turbos , great cars and i love the look of them......just hate driving them
