i've got 330's on mine behind rs7's.

custom caliper brackets and mods to standard 4 pot calipers to clear rims (by a gnat's cock). during the fit up process, i also lost a weight from the inner rim so have a bit of vibration from that at the moment, but braking feel and performance is very good. one of the best mods to the car so far (along with making the abs work at the sametime by replacing front sensors)

The only thing I would be concerned about was that with such big spacers, the wheel may not be sitting on the centre location ring (if it is, then no worries ).

If it isn't, then you run the risk of the wheel moving around on the wheel studs, which then ovalises the holes, which then makes the wheel move around even more and the consequences of that don't bare think about .

Craigs kit was supplied by me. its Ł900

Mike , if that was the case then they wouldn't make the centre spigot rings on some wheels out of plastic as these would fall apart , if the wheel nuts are torqued up properly there is no way they will move as the nuts are tapered , so when you tighten the nuts up this is what centralises everything up.

I have run this sort of setup on rallycars in the past with no problems , if there was going to be a problem it would have shown up on them

Cheers Ian

Ian,
Even plastic spiggot rings stop the wheel from being able to move .

I only commented, as I have personally witnessed the effect such a failure I described happen at Snetterton on a 3dr on Rondells with spacers on the rear that didn't allow the wheel to sit on the centre spiggot. It completely destroyed the wheel and luckily he came in before it damaged the bodywork / snapped the studs.

Suffice to say, he never ran spacers again... The spiggot rings are there for a reason .

Personally, I would be making the bells up with a spiggot ring, and then machining the wheel to accept the (obviously necessary) larger size / doing without the plastic insert - job done .

mike i have allready thought of this after a conversation with you before

i have inserts inside my wheel that gets rid of the grooved edge and means the wheel sits tight on the spigot ring

Mike , do you honestly think that if the weight of the car can be held up on the plastic ring if the wheel was loose , it would brake up , the only way a wheel can move on the studs is if they aren't tight enough , then yes with the wheel moving around it will damage the holes , you would then have to either change the inserts in them or scrap them , if someone fits the cheap crappy wheel spacers then the wheel may not sit flat as the spacers are never totally flat , so this could cause problems , but the builders disc cutter I have leaves a nice flat surface ( this is a joke before anyone thinks that is what I use )

Rob,
It may not have anything to do with the wheels requiring balancing, it may be because the spiggot ring also centres the wheel and if it doesn't have this, you can put the wheel on ever so slightly off centre, which causes the same feeling as a wheel being out of balance.... I only know this from experience as well (with elcheapo spacers, it just takes a few goes to centre the wheels) .

Sorry mike I disagree ( behind the bike sheads now mofo ) the taper on the wheel nuts will centralise the wheels , but I agree with el cheapo wheel spacers causing problems , as they are usually cast they are never truely flat , but my bells are

Ian,
Oh-er .

We'll have to agree to disagree then . Apart from on el cheapo wheel spacers, which are more shit than a shite thing on shite day during the festival of shiteness , where we stand united .

might have a point there mike, i had wheels balanced a few times and they told me they couldnt balance it properly due to not being able to stick weights near the caliper and i didnt want the clip on ones showing on outside so put up with the wobble............

got comp mos now and there fine cos there plenty of room for weights
