Default Ported CVH (not) lean burn head, complete

Clearing out my Dad’s garage following his death and I’ve come across a gem!

Not sure who was active in the industry in the 1980s-1990s, but I’ve found a professionally ported CVH (not) Lean Burn head, complete with cam, cam wheel, valves, rockers etc. I believe it’s 1600cc.

It came off his Morgan plus 4 that he had bought second hand and wasn’t running right. Rather than trying to get the carburation etc sorted, he bought a standard head.

Any idea as to it’s value? Obviously no paperwork indicating specs etc. Would want to move it on to an enthusiast....

Unfortunately not knowing whos done the work, the fact its lean burn so less desireable dont bode well.
That said, pictures will help identify if its actually a reasonable job or a clear DIY punt.
CC should be stamped on the back of the head btw

Yes, here are pictures, no CC stamping, but there is a cast number.

Thats a hemi head not lean burn.
The big 1.6 in your 4th picture kind of implies its erm... a 1.6 :P

Its hard to tell what works been done as that is one very coked up head - even by CVH standards.

OK. Great! Now I know what it is, I’ve edited the post. I was going by the casting number. Yes, he just couldn’t get it running properly - I guess it was running way too rich!

So, back to the original question, any idea what it’s worth and whether there’s a demand?

I want it to go to someone that will appreciate it and use it. What would this have been fitted to? 1.6L Escorts?

Thanks for all your help. 🙂

It would have been fitted to 1.6's (non-efi) Mk3 and 4.

The markets all over the shop. Its an unknown entity, so I'd say anywhere from £20-£100 if you're lucky. You could whip the cam out and try punt that separately - personally I'd never use a cam that i hadn't bought new on a CVH just cause they are generally all shite/mistreated/fooked in some way but I'm sure someone out there tight on cash would chuck £30 for a used cam and lifters.

Funnily enough I'm after a head to get some headwork sorted for an engine I'm building. if you decided on a price, let me know, you're only an hour or so away from me (You could keep the cam/lifters).

This IS a lean burn head pictured, a hemi head has a completely round chamber rather than the heart shaped chamber of a lean burn head. Also it looks a lot like a standard non-ported head to me. The pictures of the inlet ports still show bare casting, the cam is also standard. As for a value, take a look on ebay... they sell from around £30 upwards depending on condition.
