Default Did you Know this about Lager/Beer????

FOOKING HELL...just read this about Lager on a Kronenborg site ...I must drink far more now

Beer contains large quantities of vitamins B, PP, as well as minerals;

Vitamin B
Vitamins B1, B2, B5 , B6 and B12 are essential for carbohydrate assimilation and the production of energy.
Vitamin B9 helps protect against cardiovascular disease and some forms of anaemia.
Vitamin B6 helps the body assimilate magnesium
A single litre of beer brings 80% of a person's recommended daily vitamin intake in vitamins B2 and B6, 33% of vitamin B9 and 10% of daily B1 and B5 needs.
These vitamins are also to be found in dairy products, liver, pasta and dried vegetable.

Vitamin PP (100% of recommended daily vitamin intake)
Vitamin PP, or niacin, is vital for the metabolism, helps protect the skin and stimulates growth. It can be found in cereal husks, meat and yeast.

Minerals
Beer is a rich source of mineral salts
Magnesium: increases alertness, energy, efficiency and helps reduce stress.
Potassium: helps regulate blood pressure and nerve conduction.
Calcium and phosphor: needed for bone formation
Beer is also rich in proteins, in the form of essential amino acids, and the complex carbohydrates needed in a balanced diet.

Prof. Gérard Derby, of the Nancy Centre of Preventive Medecine, has shown that there is no difference in body mass index (and therefore in body weight) between drinkers of water, soft drinks, beer and wine

The first beer drinkers are thought to have been the Mesopotamians, well over 5000 years ago. However, the benefits of a moderate consumption of beer were first recorded by the Egyptians around 3000 BC.
Nowadays, the beneficial effects of beer have been shown through carefully monitored studies, backed by sophisticated analyses. Beer comes through as a drink with a low calorie count and a high vitamin content, especially B-group vitamins. Moderate consumption of beer can be part of a healthy, well-balanced diet.

Beer does not make you fat.

A study recently carried out in the North of France showed that there was no relation between moderate beer-consumption and weight increase.

Someone drinking 33cl of beer with his or her meal :
- naturally adapts his or her calorie intake, mainly by cutting down on carbohydrates.
- takes fewer snacks between meals and eats less in the evening.
Beer is low in calories: 400 kcal/litre, which means 1 25 cl glass of beer = 100 kcal
compared to
25 cl of full cream milk = 163 kcal
25 cl of fresh fruit juice = 100-125 kcal
25 cl of wine = 250 kcal
1 natural yoghurt = 62.5 kcal

Beer also has diuretic properties.

Beer is a natural product, made from grains, and can be drunk as part of a healthy, balanced diet.
