Whats the best way?
The engine is not in the bay and will be on a stand, is there any good block cleaners that will clean up the loose flakey rust/paint and remove all the leaked oil etc....
Basically wanna give it a sprose up before i give it a lick of paint.

I got my M8 who works for Turner Diesel to put mine into a special hot water / acid type washer thing that they use for cleaning engine parts and the likes. sits on a motorised turntable and gets left for 24hrs. Came out like a new casting just needing paint
only downside is it needs to be a bare block

Petrol and a stiff brush, then wire brush attachment on a drill or by hand afterwards is usually pretty damned effective.
An airline will help blow the dust off, but you should mask up the sensitive areas of the block - oilways, waterways, bores, to keep grit out
