Default Mondeo st220

A few weeks ago I started a thread saying I was very unsure what to do with the 4 cars I have all toys none very practical.

After some thought I'm going to get rid of my 205 gti I've not long bought and buy a st220.

All the cars I have a virtually impossible to fit a child seat in so I've decided to let one of them go this being the 205 and get an st.

Reasons for an st. Love the way they'd look, decent power and it's a ford

Read a few reviews and mostly they are pretty positive. Not worried on the fuel cost. I'd be looking for an older model for the cheaper tax. From what I read the the diesels are useless.

I'm really looking for someone to tell me why I shouldn't get one! Looked at the st200s but been told all round the 220s are a better all round car by a long way with more power and luxur, plus prices are t really that far apart for good models.

I had a 220 a few years ago. Great cars. Not the most economical ever but a good all-rounder otherwise. Loads of room inside, but feel nice and nimble to drive and sound decent.

Probably one of the best cars I've owned really.

being a mondeo its a decent drive, the st200s are simply rot boxes so a 220 is way to go and a nice 3litre with a small amount of add ons makes it a nice car and at moment the values on these cars are rock bottom so ideal car to buy if you have cash in your pocket

I've always wanted one. Wouldn't touch a diesel mondeo with a barge pole. Driven and looked after quite a few petrol ones at the garage I used to work at and drove great

they do have issues with the engines, but if you get a good one they are great cars

don't forget to budget Ł1k for a clutch if it's knackered though

Like the 2.0 If they run low on oil they spin the shells. The vacuum hosses are plastic and they crumble. They have the nasty dmf but if you find a keeper then ttv do a very nice billet fly and helix clutch. It’s a ford so they do rust, bottom of the doors first.

Inside is a nice place to be.

They are heavy so do not feel quick.

I like them too.

I've got a 2.5 v6 Zetec s. I've fitted the st recaros to mine. I can honestly say it the best car I've had.

Quite a bid difference between ST and Zetec-S. Suspension differences, wider wings on the ST, plus different seats etc, not to mention 50bhp.

ST is the one to have really.

Head rests monitors.

My Zetec s is a rare colour too. It's octane blue. It came well specced standard.

6 speed box
Half leather heated seats
Xenon headlights
Cruise control
Footwell lights

The mods I've done to it are
Fitted the foldable/puddle light door mirrors which I wired up to work off the remote key.
Relocated the imcr.
Fitted cone filter. Then made an air box to house the cone filter.
Angle eyes fitted to headlights.
Rear interior light with map lights.
Fitted recaro front seats and rear seat.
Fitted posh head unit that has sat nav CD player mp3 player usb,sd card. Reverse camera. DVD player with monitors fitted to head rests.
Sony Ford speakers.
Sub and amp in boot.
Auto dim interior mirror.

The bottom of the rear doors have started to that.

I've got a pair of front doors spare and I'm looking for a pair of rear doors.

They did a very rare 3.0ltr verson of the zetec s which uses the same engine as the st220. Bit they only have 200 bhp. So I don't know if the ecu is different or there are parts on the engine which are different but I can't see that.

I didn't think they did a 3.0 Zetec-S? I know they did some 3.0 Titanium X Mondeos, which look very similar to the ST220.

Well, you learn something new every day!

Not sure on the differences between the two 3.0 lumps.

I had a 2.0 in octane blue, great car. I’ve got a 220 in ink blue. I prefer the S wheels to the st.

I am sure the 20bhp will be down to mapping. I don’t see them changing the cams just for the S/ Titainium.

I also didn’t know they did a 3.0 Zetec S.

Yeh I think its just the ecu. I think there was a thread on talk Ford saying what the differences could be.

Big wassa give me your back doors lol.

The flywheel went on the octane 2.0 so I sold it for the engine.

The ink blue st has been stood for so long the doors are probably all ready on the way.

For some reason the zetec s is more to insure so looks like I'll be looking for a tidy st220.

I'll have about 2k budget, more if needed but I'd like to stay below that. Looking at what's about I should get a half decent one. I'll be looking for one that has had the clutch done though

There are loads of them on eBay. It's made buy a company called Arisn. Be aware they are a easy fit. There listed to fit mk3 Mondeos but they don't. I had to do a lot of chopping and cutting to the centre console to get it to fit.

If you look at a transit/fiesta and focus radio/CD player they are like a rectangle where as the Mondeo radios are shaped different on the edges.

This is like mine.

I would of bought a ST220 but I only had 1200 quid to buy I car.

You might be pushed to get a ST220 for 2k.

To have 3k if I want but looking at what's about I don't think I'll need that. The best one I've see so far is 2k. A lot seem only to fetch Ł1600ish, seem rock bottom on price ATM, a lot of car for the money

We've had this for 4 1/2 years now and it's been superb, bought on 82k, put a clutch in at 100k and that's it.

It doesn't get a lot of miles, just used to take kids to nursery and wife to work to save the focus from getting destroyed by the children as a daily car

It is a Diesel though.

Just like normal. Buy the best you can. The bottom of the doors rot. I think Ford modified the doors to stop this. The back arches are prone to rust too.

The ST220 don't have the stupid imcr either which is a good thing cause these can pack up.

My mk4 was alright, when it was released it was supposed to be better than your average 3 series but I didn't think too much of it really. 20 inch wheels and rock hard suspension did it absolutely no favours either
