Unhappy Alternator problem?

Hi I would just like to ask, if any members have had any on going problems with their Alternator? I have a focus 02, and have had on going problems with my Alternator. I have just been told by the RAC. That my current Alternator is not working also. This is the 3rd one I have in the past 4 month. It's not a new one, but a recondition at a cost of £95.00 a time. I was just wondering is there a reason for this or just dodgy Alternators? What your view on this issue Paul .

Hi Glen. The battery light comes on when I start the car up as normal then go's off when car starts up. The lad from the RAC said tonight the the Alternator is only sending out 9vt. So back to garage tomorrow to have it charge under the warranty (hopefully) only had it fitted in September. The lad from the RAC say the problem could be that it is a recondition unit and not NEW?

Unplug the wiring plug from it then see what it's outputting.

It's not unusual for the wiring plugs to corrode and break up inside causing all sorts of charging problems.

Have you got a silver calcium battery fitted or just a standard lead acid battery? thE later can cause all sorts of problems to the charging system.

Hi I have a silver calcium battery fitted, I done this at the same time as I got this Alternator fitted. The RAC tested the plug and there was charge come from the battery to the Alternator. But he was unable to check the other two wires. When I got the car check over the other month by Auto Electric nothing showed up. other the the alternator that I had at the time sending out too high of voltage. Just need to get thing sorted, As the lad said it is showing up as the same fault and the RAC, can refuse to come out as it would look as if I am not doing anything with the alternator fault.
