Default Mk4 coilover issues

Hi there hope Somerton can help I have a mk4 escort and have fitted gaz coilovers but since fitting hearing terrible noises sounds like the inner wheel well are flexing. I've striped down and refitted no issues added a strut brace but the noises still persist any ideas? I have read about welding up the strut tops but what does that really mean? Any help welcomed as haven't driven the car due to the noises and if I can fix I might go back to rear standard shocks and lowering spring as ride is that bad.
Thanks

You need to reinforce the rear strut tops because they are not designed to take sprung weight. I've done this to one of my Escorts, make a box section that can be welded on the strut top and inner 1/4 panel plus weld every couple of inches on the seems around that area.
