Default Essex 3.0 v6 setting up

Car runs but us holding and farting etc could be stale fuel but I plan to fit a electric ignition kit inside dizzy and set timing be a good start

Been told 12 degrees btdc sound right?

Depends on the year of the engine. Somewhere around 1974 the timing was changed from 10 degrees to 14.

don't use those settings with 95 RON though, use SUL.

Aparantly it must be the later type as dipstick is on side of engine

My 3 litre Capri was always sluggish when set with a timing light to factory settings (was a long time ago and I have no idea what they were now)


Found the best way was to advance it a bit and rag it up the road to see if it pinks !


Once it either pinks of does not feel any better to drive you can back it off a fraction.
