Actual top mounts or just covers? Wouldn't have thought Carbon leant itself that well to all the different angles of forces and how it would fix to the chassis?

A complete replacement for the original stamped steel one that goes on top of the shock, not the strut tower.

Solid pre-preg carbon should be at least as strong as the steel one I would have thought.

Im sure i had some from these guys years ago.

http://www.carbondelight.co.uk/index.php

Sold them on ebay for Ł150, sent them off but the buyer wasnt in to sign for them, they were supposedly returned but never made it back... So ended up refunding with no strut tops...

Anyway, im sure they had 2x2 or 4x4 twill.

Do you mean the usually black, pressed steel part that goes on the spring and holds the bearing, before the gold coloured top mount? Bit of a gob full!!!

I have those on my car, they are fitted over the O/E metal tops, I don't think they'd be upto the job on their own

They are fine afaik, the only problem found was heat (tested on a drag car)
caused the resin to opaque, this was rectified with a change in resin for chem/high temp.

The thickness is around 3mm pure carbon so more than up to the job, it would be an good test to try them on a rally car as this only really stops the strut from falling down the turret, but if the car is on jumps and stuff where the full travel of the suspension is frequently experienced then this would show any fatigue/strength issues

Ive not seen many designs out there, heard lots of stories about people using metal inserts and all sorts but never actually seen anything substantial.

Its always better to have a composite part made thoroughly from the same material, only difference I think are acceptable are fabric weights

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, I'm not entirely sure mine are 3mm thick, I'll measure them tonight. I didn't buy them so I've no idea who made them

Mark. Did you sort a pair of carbon strut tops out?
Just seen someone on Facebook is looking to sell a new pair.
They are on 'The Sierra Cosworth Fan Page' if you use FB.

Mart.

Yes mate,

Might now sell them as my coil overs have a short top thread and I don't want to use the carbon tops without washers in case they get chewed up

If I use washers it will be a PITA to get the thread started and might not engage on the nylock.

Not a bad idea !

I have a surface grinder at work, the OCD in me would need the washers plated after grinding though and I'm not sure if I can be arsed
