Default MK3 XR3i INJECTION PROBLEMS

I have just brought a 1983 XR3i as a project, but seem to be having a problem with the K jetronic injection system, the car struggles to start, can't idle, rough on acceleration when it does.
it has a new fuel pump and filter, when I discount one of the injector pipes and the jet end, nothing seems to come through, But is that because it is no longer under pressure ?. Also discounting the unions that feed the injectors, only a little fuel weeps out, but at the cold start and warm up regulator, the unions are under pressure.
is the metering unit at fault and is there a easy way to test it ?
any help please.
Thanks
Clive

I would get it to someone who is a specialist to set it up, I think there is someone near Portsmouth but cannot remember the name.

Sounds like a metering unit issue. Have checked that the metering flap isnt stuck in position?

yes the metering flap works, I was not sure if there is a way to test the metering unit, I can get a secondhand unit off e-bay, but you never know if that is any good.
