Default Dark blue Mk3 focus st stolen.... MT63 DZY

My uncle had a dark blue st stolen last Thursday night from the Solihull area of Birmingham, he said it was monotune mapped upto 350bhp apparently but not being clued up on new fords now I can't comment, was running lsd and aftermarket exhaust.

Smashed through the window so probably taken via OBD.

Yep, really tidy car as well to be honest, it's either being thrashed around on different plates somewhere, in bits on eBay or in Europe

If they smashed the window to get in I dont reckon they were "professional" car thieves maybe just idiots who wanted it just to blast around in and then dump it so it may turn up hopefully.

The new craze is to pop the windows and then program a new key via OBD, where is the OBD port on MK2 focus's? I know it was common on BMW's but was in sure if it's leaked onto other marques?

You wouldn't of stolen a new car without the keys or some sort of hack via computer to get it up and running.

The "in thing " at the moment seems to be breaking in to the owners house and stealing the keys, much easier with no damage so I guess worth more to the low lifes. A friend of mine recently had his Honda estate stolen from his driveway and the keys were stolen the day before they took the car!!!! He hadnt been using it and didnt realise anyone had broken in and taken them.
How many of us secure our keys inside our hoses?

Not me. If someone has the bollocks to break in to my house to nick my keys they are welcome to them. I would rather not have a weapon pointed in mine or my families face in the middle of the night if they can't find them!

I had my 64 plate fiesta st broken into, I had fitted a obd relocation kit so the low lifes where slowed down somewhat and left the car. Car was parked in plain view of traffic at 14:30pm .
I have now fitted a disclok and I have moved the pins around in the obd port so a patch cable is needed.
I was extreamly lucky not to loose the car.

yeah you move move the pins 1 by 1, by the end of the process all the pins are in a different layout.
If it does get broken into and come to the port they will need to know exactly where each pin goes, obviously if they break into the house they can have the keys.

Spot on. When I go to bed I leave mine by the door so they can be in and out without waking anyone. If their desperate enough to break in, god knows what they'll do to the kids, myself or the wench!

the problem with leaving the keys in plain view in the house is with key theft being the biggest growing method of car theft, you bet your bottom dollar that car insurance companies will start to bring in clauses that keys must be out of sight or locked away etc.

Sure you'll still leave them out to save your wife and kids getting raped, but youll be even more out of pocket as your insurance wont pay out.

If security doesnt change then i can see it killing off a lot of the high value hot hatches. Realistically unless you are a high earner, most folk cant afford to throw away £30-50k thier nearly new focus rs, VAG group saloon, BMW M series car etc costs even if previously they could afford the repayments on one. could really sting people having a finance shortfall that could be 20k plus and needing to get a replacement car.

As usual the insurance companies will look after themselves in that situation leaving the ordinary bloke fucked. lol

might mean affordability criteria for car HP changes to see if the person can afford to "loose" the money lol.

Guess it will all be solved with finger print scanners or pin codes or similar thus meaning the thieves ONLY have the option of car jacking or stealing off the person by direct force. wether criminals just get more hardened and up thier game or if car crime will reduce a bit as many of the thieves havent the balls remains to be seen.
